New Library Artwork: Courthouse Impressions by Robert Stalnaker

If you are a frequent flyer at the courthouse, chances are that at some point or other, you’ve been wanded in by Bobby Stalnaker, one of the King County FMD security screeners. What you may not know is that in addition to being unfailingly polite and friendly to all who pass his way, Bobby is also a very talented painter. Bobby was kind enough to loan the law library one of his pieces. As you enter the law library, you will find his depiction of the King County Courthouse. The painting’s cheerful color palette is inspired by brightly colored buildings around the world and adds a sense of whimsy and vibrancy to the courthouse and surrounding buildings.  In the foreground, the greenery and cherry blossoms of City Hall Park reflect a time of renewal, change, and all things made new. Bobby is a US Army veteran and creates art that is full of color and abstraction. His hope is to bring joy and light, no matter the darkness you might find yourself in.

Ever tried to find a form on the court's website, but it didn’t exist? Google and ChatGPT are not your friends either when it comes to forms. At the library, we have several books that can help you create forms that aren’t already created. One of our books is 101 Law Forms for Personal Use. This book is available in print and digital versions. It has a plethora of forms, such as pet care agreements, wills for people with and without children, tenant references, demand letters, and more. This is a great resource to get you started in creating forms.

As always, you want to consult court rules and any local or WA codes when creating or modifying a form to ensure accuracy.

This new column seeks to find quirky laws and examine how they were created in the first place. This column will focus on finding, analyzing, and explaining the research steps in investigating these quirky laws. 

This month’s deep dive into quirky laws will have us searching through the woods for the creature known as Sasquatch.

New and Updated Materials

We have some exciting new and updated materials at the library. Our new Lexis Digital Library Services video walks you through the different features and uses of our Lexis Digital Library Database. You can find the video on our Lexis Digital Library Database page. We have updated our Transfer on Death Deed Packet to include information to find the most current REET Affidavit. The new Foreign Judgement Packet provides instructions and forms to file a foreign judgment. Both packets can be found on our forms page on our website.
