KCLL Summer Lit Picks: Staff Suggestions for Your Recreational Reads

As the rest of the world discovers the joy that is summer in Seattle, we locals can find refuge from the World Cup crowds in fun summer reads. In this month’s column get a leg up on what to read for your Book Bingo card with a peek into what the law library and foundation staff are currently reading. Books Featured Books include Sky Full of Elephants, The Serviceberry, Lost Lambs, and The Count of Monte Cristo.

Brief Recess: A Legal Podcast

Michael and Mélissa are a best friend duo that break down the wild and wacky legal news stories of the day. Michael is an immigration attorney who uses TikTok as a platform to discuss current immigration issues based on his own experiences as an attorney in the system. Mélissa is a media maven, Hattian advocate, and non-profit administrator. Brief Recess is a great podcast that brings together current events and levity in a thoughtful and creative endeavor.

Cate's Bites: Adventures in Eating in Downtown Seattle

This month’s featured eatery takes us to Pan De La Selva at Fourth Avenue and Cherry Street. They offer a lovely variety of Mexican and Central American pastries, quiche, and drinks. Their restaurant space is bright and colorful with lots of seating that can accommodate larger groups as well as offering pre-orders of 6 or more pastries for pickup. I had their Semita (a guava-rhubarb y queso Salvadoran pie tart), Puerquito, and a Salvadoran Horchata.

King County Court Appointed Special Advocates

Have you, or someone you know, been looking for an extremely rewarding way to give back to your community? The King County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program has an upcoming informational session for those considering becoming Special Advocates. CASAs are trained volunteers appointed by judges to act as an independent advocate for children in dependency cases. This is a wonderful opportunity to help children and families in King County.
