NEW! Browsing Bin Collection for Young Readers

The Children's Library has a new addition meant just for our youngest readers. Most of the library's collections are organized by subject or author, including in the Children’s Library, but that means that pre-readers can struggle in finding the books they want to look at. The Browsing Bin collection is designed to give these young patrons more autonomy by organizing the books in broad categories of interest. The collection is also color-coded by category, so pre-readers can identify that they want the “red books” instead of having to read numbers and letters on labels to find what interests them.

The Browsing Bin collection is located within the picture book area by the trees in its own distinct shelving unit. The books are mainly picture books fitting within 8 categories:

1-Transportation+Machines; 2-Dinosaurs; 3-People+Places; 4-Animals; 5-Concepts; 6-Nature; 7-Recreation (sports, arts, etc); and 8-Folklore+Fantasy. The content is geared towards preschoolers/pre-readers, and it includes both fiction and nonfiction. The Browsing Bin books check out for 30 days, but they are not able to be requested. This new collection was made possible thanks to a gift from the Friends of the Bismarck Public Library.
