Notice! Parking Lot Entrance Closure

The north east parking lot entrance (by the book drop) will be closed starting Thursday, August 16. Oberstar will be connecting the new Atrium roof drains into storm sewer connections. It is anticipated that this work will take 2-3 days to complete. Our outside book drop will remain accessible to foot traffic during this time.

Please feel free to call the library for renewals or checkout extensions while the drive-up book drop is not available. Items can also be returned in book drop locations at the Westwood Mall, Chocolay Township Hall or Sands Township Hall.

Project Updates - Front Street Staircase Repair

Big news for this week is the addition of the Front Street staircase(s) to project scope.

Repair to these stairs was on our 'wish list,' as years of patching have left them looking shabby. We are thrilled to be able to add this to the project scope.

While on-site, National Restoration tested out a repair product on a section of the stairs. It looks much better, and will provide a more complete level of protection for our fragile limestone stairs. Work on the upper flight of the stairs (from sidewalk to building entrance) will begin early next week.

It is very likely that the Front Street entrance to PWPL will be (at least) partially blocked during these repairs.

Lower Stairs (Front Street)

We have also requested a quote for repairs to the lower level of the Front Street stairs. These stairs were installed in 2011 and are generally in good shape.

However, where the railings attach to the block there is much damage. We hope to be able to include this in the project scope as well.
