Library Locations Close Due to Public Health Concern
Fredericksburg, Virginia, March 16, 2020 - Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) has closed all branches and satellite locations effective 1:00 p.m. on March 16 through Sunday, March 29 due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 public health crisis. All library classes and events, and meeting room use, are cancelled during this time, as well as outreach including Lobby Stops, Grow a Reader classes, and the Youth Services Programming Van. Branches will remain open on March 16 until 7:00 p.m. for holds pickup only. Customers picking up holds at Howell Branch should use the drive-through window. Montross and Newton branches will provide holds pickup only until 5:00 p.m.

Customers are encouraged to follow any recommendations issued by the Virginia Department of Health and the CDC regarding social gatherings.

CRRL's website,, and social media channels, will continue to provide online services and library updates, and will be maintained by teleworking library staff.
To serve customer's needs during this necessary closure, CRRL offers a wide range of online resources, including:
  • eBooks and eMagazines Download directly to customer's mobile devices or computers.
  • Careers & Workforce Development Research a new career and practice career entrance exams.
  • Mango Languages Learn a language online.
  • Premier video-based online training resource offering more than 6,000 courses covering technical skills, creative techniques, business strategies, and more.
  • Kanopy: Streaming Video Choose from more than 30,000 films, including acclaimed movies and documentaries, film-festival favorites, world cinema, classic film, The Great Courses, and selections from The Criterion Collection.
  • Kanopy Kids Educational streaming video for preschool age and up.

Some online resources require library cards from CRRL, which can be ordered online at New cards will be mailed out within five business days.

Customers who have library items currently checked out should keep them until the library reopens, as all book drops will be closed. No fines will be charged while the library is closed. This includes Interlibrary Loan items. Books on hold will have their pickup period extended through Tuesday, March 31.
CRRL is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 30. Possible updates to this schedule, and to CRRL's response to the coronavirus, can be found at and on the library's social media.
