September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and if you are reading this, you most likely already know the value of your library card! But I hope you will join us in celebrating all that your library card has to offer by stopping in this month and using your card. As always, our staff can't wait to see you in the library taking advantage of the great programs and services highlighted below!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
To celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month, we have a special Dine Around Town Raffle for adults, with gift certificates to local restaurants. For kids, we have a prize basket raffle filled with books, games,LEGOs, crafts and more! Each time you use your card, or sign-up for a library card, you can enter our raffle.

In addition, you can replace your lost or old,worn out library card for free during the month of September at the Patterson Library. If you are replacing your library card, please bring a valid driver's license or ID with your current address with you to the library.
Join the Patterson Library Friends Group
Help the library and your community, by becoming a Patterson Library Friend! Join us for an informational meeting about our Friends group on Thursday, September 29 at 7 PM. Hear how you can give back to your community and support the library while meeting new people and having a great time! The Great Give Back Event
Mark your calendar and join us on Saturday, October 15, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM for our Great Give Back Event. This year we will be "Giving Back" to our veterans, by collecting donations of toiletries and other items for the Vet2Vet organization.

The day offers something for everyone. Kids can come in costume and stop by the many stations for the fun trick-or-treat activities and candy, while adults can enjoy lunch from the food trucks. We will give away free pumpkins (while supplies last), in our spooky pumpkin patch and vendors from the Patterson Farmer's Market will be here for this special event.

Across the street, the Patterson Fire Department will be hosting a Classic Car Show as well, so don't miss this fantastic day!

Is Medicare looming in your future but you don't know where to start or what would be best for you? Already in a plan but uncertain if it is the right fit? Attend one of our information sessions for an overview of Medicare and answers to general questions. Maggie Flynn will be at the library on Tuesday, September 13, at 7 pm and Bernadette Pacific will be in Putnam Lake at Sacred Heart Church meeting room on Thursday, November 3 at 1 pm.

Meet us at the Wallace Visitor Center at the FDR Museum and Presidential Library in Hyde Park for this program. Jeff Urbin, Education Specialist, will give us an introduction, and then participants are free to tour the museum at their own pace. Tours of the house are available at an additional fee or with your National Park Service pass.

You've seen him on his PBS TV program New England Legends, and now you can see Jeff Belanger here as he tells stories of haunts around the world and those in your backyard! Emmy-nominated Belanger is a wonderful storyteller, adventurer, and journalist. He will recount stories from his books, podcasts, adventures, and the various television shows he's worked on!

On Wednesday, September 14, join Dr. Ruth Light and the Science Readers to learn everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about octopuses. These amazing, yet often maligned, creatures will fascinate you.
Fridays @ 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Join our weekly Mahjong Drop-In Program at the Patterson Library every Friday morning. Beginners and experienced players alike are invited to join the fun. Registration is not required but preferred.

Putnam County Libraries have teamed up to present our New Parent's Online Support Group! Please email to request an invitation to our weekly Zoom meetings every Friday at 11 am. The New Parents Support Group was initiated in 2014 and provides no-cost, professionally-facilitated support groups for all who seek professional advice, peer companionship, and kind support. This warm and welcoming group is co-facilitated by Katherine Whiteside (CPD: CBI) and Dr. Rachel Lemonik (PsyD).

Step into Ancient Egypt in this history program! Discover who King Tut was, learn your A, B, C's in hieroglyphics and create a papyrus bookmark. For grades 4 & up.

Grab your grownup and make some earrings! Joan Lloyd will show you how to create some beautiful earrings. *Must register child and grownup for this program. For ages of 8 - 13.
Monday October 10 @ 11 AM
Jester Jim is here for more fun and laughs! With his trunk full of props, looping machine, and crazy jokes, Jim creates a show that is a blast for everyone! For ages 4 & up.

Teen Programs

Chop down trees and defeat the Ender Dragon! You’ll learn tips and tricks to become a Minecraft pro. All levels welcome.

Earn community service hours and mentor younger kids. Learn of volunteering events, expectations and meet your Board. *Contact Miss Jenn for details. For grades 7 and up.

Start off our teen craft series by creating a personalized wall hanging to decorate your space. Materials will be provided. For ages 12 - 19.

Chef Dave from Cooking with Dave will teach you to create a charcuterie board! Learn all the tips and tricks to make your board delicious and beautiful. For ages 12 - 19.
Monday, September 26 @ 6 PM
One of you will die and one of you will be the killer. Come to this interactive program where you will have to find out who the murderer is before they get away. For ages 12 -19.

We’ll be decorating pumpkins to start off our October festivities. Using all sorts of mediums we’ll make spooky, beautiful pumpkins—no carving necessary! For ages 12 - 19.

Open Computer Help
Beginning September 13, Adam Bernier of A&R 360 will be in our Study Room every other Tuesday from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm to answer your basic tech questions.
Registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome. Please check the calendar for exact dates.
Book Clubs
Did you know we have several book clubs during the day and evening hours? If you like to read, get together with people and share your thoughts about what you've read, give us a call to join one of our book clubs. Just contact the library at 845-878-6121 ext. 10

We never like to close, but if inclement weather, imposed closures, or building emergencies force us to close, remember to visit our website for information, announcements, and updates.
On days the library is closed due to weather or other emergencies, we will turn on our CHAT feature during business hours so you can reach a staff member to get help with your questions.
