Announcing the Author! Author! 2018/19 Line-up
Drum roll ... the Deschutes Public Library Foundation has announced the line-up for the seventh season of the Author! Author! literary series. For 2018/19 we will hear from Maria Semple (Where'd You Go Bernadette?), Sarah Vowell (Assassination Vacation), Colum McCann (Let the Great World Spin), and Richard Russo (Empire Falls). Season tickets go on sale Friday, August 24, at www.dplfoundation.org. Individual tickets go on sale September 21. Visit the Foundation's website for speaking locations and more information about the authors. The annual Author! Author! series is a fundraiser for the Foundation, which supports Library programs and services that are not funded through tax dollars. Thank you for your support!
Trade Food for Fines at Your Library!
When you want to keep a good thing going, you may keep your library items a little longer than expected, which could result in late fees. Reduce or eliminate those overdue fines by bringing in food to your library! Bring your non-perishable food items to your library during open hours starting 8/25 through 9/2 and get $1 off for each item, up to a total of $5 a day. No overdue fines? We still welcome you to drop off an item to contribute to community members in need. All food will go to NeighborImpact's Food Bank, which is in particular need of canned fruit (without added sugar), soups and stews, but all canned and non-perishable food items will be accepted. Our forever-in-training employee Bookasaurus recently dropped off some items; be sure to check it out here!

"Know Dreams" this September at Your Library
Whether you're a daydream believer or a dream weaver, you'll find something dream worthy at your library in September. Interpret your dreams through psychology and the tarot, hear the current state of the American Dream from the view of an economist, and learn tricks of the trade for catching those much-needed z's at night with sleep hygiene and medicinal herbs.
