"A Novel Idea" 2019: To the Moon and Back
Programming for the 16th Annual A Novel Idea is now in full swing! We're in the midst of three weeks of programs that expand upon the themes and ideas found in Robert Kurson's book, Rocket Men. We'll meet an astronaut, scan the sky with powerful telescopes, learn about Oregon's role in the space race, sing our hearts out as part of a public (ROCK) choir, and much more. The programming culminates with a free presentation by Kurson on April 28. All programs, including the author's presentation, are free of charge thanks to the support of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. Free tickets are required for Kurson's talk; they are available online and in all Deschutes Public Libraries. Find a full schedule of events as well as a detailed Readers Guide here
We've created an awesome playlist inspired by Rocket Men. From David Bowie and Pink Floyd to Billy Bragg and Wilco, this two-hour playlist will send you to the moon and beyond. And it's all free using Freegal, our digital music service. All you need is your library card and PIN!

Service Spotlight: Reaching Seniors
We offer a number of ways to keep Deschutes County seniors connected with their library and their community. Senior Book Clubs are held monthly in Bend and Redmond, both at the Bend Senior Center and at area senior living facilities. The Library Rendezvous program is available to retirement homes who want to give their residents recreational outings and the opportunity to use library materials at Deschutes Public Library locations. Library staff and volunteers are on hand to welcome and assist residents during their visits. Visit us online here for more information about the library's services for seniors.
