Be the First to Know
We're revealing the 2020 "A Novel Idea" selection, and you're invited to the party! Join us for "A Novel Idea... Unveiled!" on December 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Downtown Bend Library. Play Novel Idea trivia, enter the silent auction for a chance to win books and prizes, and enjoy light appetizers all while supporting the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. Books will be available for purchase and for check out after the unveiling. This is a free event. Can't make it? We'll also live stream the unveiling on our Facebook page .
Planning for the Future
Deschutes County experienced immense growth in the last 20 years, and is estimated to swell to nearly 215,000 people in 2020. Ensuring that residents have continued access to the robust selection of materials and resources they’ve come to expect is a top priority of Deschutes Public Library. Help us prepare for a dynamic next chapter by taking part in upcoming interactive discussions with the library’s architects to learn more about the renovation, expansion, and enhancement plans for your libraries. Traveling This Thanksgiving? Take Us with You!
If you're traveling this Thanksgiving holiday, don't forget that your library card gives you access to great traveling companions, including books, movies, and music. Download audio books to listen to while traveling by plane, train, or automobile, or eBooks to read when you find some downtime. You can even stream movies from anywhere using Hoopla Digital and Kanopy . Or stop by your favorite library location and pick up books for the road. Happy travels!
The Perfect Holiday Gift for Book Lovers
Do you have a hard-to-shop-for book lover on your list? A ticket to the full Author! Author! Literary Series makes a thoughtful gift. For just $75 you can gift the 2020 season, which includes best-selling authors Barry Lopez , Susan Orlean , and Michael Pollan . Author! Author! brings some of the world's best writers to Central Oregon to discuss their work as well as contemporary issues and events. The series also makes a great gift to yourself! Ticket sales support the work of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation .
Festive cheer for all to hear as songs and carols fill the halls (and lobbies) at our libraries through-out December. Enjoy live music from the Victorian Carolers, the Bend Sr. High Dynamics, RavenSong, handbell groups, and more. Plus, take part in fun activities at several libraries. Deschutes Public Library is thankful for the support we receive from the Deschutes Public Library Foundation and our Friends of the Library organizations . If your book club is looking for its next read, be sure to explore the book club kits we have available for check out . Each kit comes with copies of the book as well as questions for discussion. And be sure to check in with out community librarians, who are ready to share some great book club tips with you . We're Hiring: Two Full-Time Positions
Deschutes Public Library is currently hiring for two full-time positions. The Network Administrator will assist the IT Manager with the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable network solutions that support the library’s current infrastructure. The Communications Coordinator will work with the communications team to create and implement internal and external communications that promote awareness of library programs and services. Library Locations & Hours
You'll find us at six locations in Deschutes County;  click here  for locations and hours. Please note all libraries close at 5pm on Wednesday, 11/27; all libraries are closed on Thursday, 11/28, and Friday, 11/29.  All digital resources  (such as eBooks, downloadable audio books, streaming movies and music, etc.) are available anytime, from anywhere you happen to be with an internet connection.
