Angel Ocasio: Comedy for the Entire Family
Join us at the Redmond and Downtown Bend Libraries for a fun and wacky show that brings a comedy twist to juggling, object balancing, and magic tricks. While the tricks are great, the real magic comes from talented performer Angel Ocasio's interaction with his audiences. This show for all ages is filled with silly antics, music, and lots of laughs. Free; no registration required.
Get Ready for Kindergarten with the Library
Excited and nervous all at the same time: that's the feeling many kids have as they approach this next milestone in their lives. Help prepare your kindergartner-to-be for their first days of school with our storytimes made just for them! We'll use stories, songs, and crafts as we  focus on the positives. Kids will even leave with something special for their backpack.
Storytime Volunteers: Helping Us Reach More Kids
Library storytimes are carefully designed to develop the early literacy skills that are essential to getting kids kindergarten ready. We're proud to extend our storytime reach into Central Oregon preschools with the help of some dedicated volunteers. The library matches highly trained volunteers with daycares and preschools for weekly library-style storytimes. If you're interested in being a one of our Read, Rhyme, and Romp volunteers, be sure to attend this upcoming session:

RFID: Coming to a Library Near You
You may soon spy a cart like the one at right rolling through the aisles of your library. This week we began the process of adding Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to all library materials, including books, DVDs, and CDs. RFID will help us better manage our tax-funded library collection as well as improve self-check out for customers. While RFID technology is fast and easy to use once it is installed, it will take us six to eight weeks to complete the process. After all, we have more than 300,000 items we're working with! You can follow the progress on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, and can look for new check-out stations in October. You'll find an article about our RFID migration here.
American Sign Language Interpretation
Deschutes Public Library now offers American Sign Language interpretation at two designated cultural programs every month.
You'll find the programs listed in the website calendar (indicated by the hands symbol) and in the Events guide (indicated by the ASL tag).  The library is committed to making programs and services accessible to all people.  If there is a specific program for which you need interpretation or other accommodation, contact us here.
Teachers: We Have a Newsletter Just for You
This is our last eNewsletter of the school's-out-for-summer season, which means the school year approaches! The library is full of great resources for teachers, and we have a newsletter that will help you take advantage of all we have to offer. Teachers Know is sent out three times a year (fall/winter/spring) to teachers, and we offer newsletters targeted to specific grade groups: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. You can sign up for for Teachers Know here. Look for your first issue in October!
