The book was announced at a public unveiling on December 6 at the Downtown Bend Library. The book was a semifinalist for the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Debut, was a bestselling novel in Ireland, and recently won the  Irish Book Award for Sunday Independent Newcomer of the Year . Alllllll Aboard! The Train Man Returns for Year 20
It was 20 years ago this month that Michael “The Train Man” Lavrich started sharing his model trains with delighted children—and adults—at the Downtown Bend Library. Now, two decades later, his annual display of model trains is a highly anticipated holiday tradition for countless families in Central Oregon. We're grateful for his return this year! Staff Picks: The Best of 2019
2019 was a great year for reading! Library customers read or listened to 1,604,921 books during our last fiscal year, and our staff read right along with you. We asked staff about some of their favorites of the year and are excited to share their picks with you. From fiction to non-fiction, cookbooks to history books, and sci-fi to essay collections, there's something here for everyone and for every way you read, whether you're listening on the go or cozied up by a warm fire.
Thank You Oregon Cultural Trust
All of the A Novel Idea programs and events are free thanks to generous donations from individuals and organizations to the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. The Oregon Cultural Trust granted more than $11,000 to the Foundation for A Novel Idea 2020, and now, if you donate before December 31 to the Foundation and make a matching gift to the Oregon Cultural Trust, you can qualify for a state tax credit of up to $500 for individuals, $1,000 for a couple filing jointly, or $2,500 for a class-C corporation. Deschutes Public Library has openings for three Public Services Specialists, two at the Redmond Library and one at the Downtown Bend Library.
