ONEBOOKAZ Author Visit
ONEBOOKAZ went digital in 2014, and Sedona Public Library invites you to an author visit with Stephen Hirst, the ONEBOOKAZ winner, on Tuesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. Hirst became this year's adult-category winner with "Lauren Greasewater's War," the story of a displaced Havasupai woman's quest to find her way back to her birthplace to reinvent herself. You can download the e-book here free of charge until June 1.

Living in the Grand Canyon for 11 years, Stephen Hirst and his family developed an enduring connection with the Havasupai Indians. Hirst's work with the Havasupai helped the tribe recover a significant amount of ancestral land.
Celebrate Da de los Nios/Da de los Libros
Join us on Wednesday, April 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the Children's Room as Sedona Public Library celebrates Da de los Nios/Da de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day). Da is a nationwide initiative celebrating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Our program will feature story time, crafts, snacks, and more! Families and children of all ages are welcome.

To learn more about Da de los Nios/Da de los Libros visit the Da page here.
Movies in April
Two contenders for best picture at the Oscars are on the Flicker Shack calendar in April. All movies are free and begin at 6 p.m. on Monday evenings in the Si Birch Community Room.

On April 7, Latino Services presents the Spanish-language action film "Saving Private Perez." Nominated in almost every major Academy-Awards category, "American Hustle" is playing on April 14. Best-director winner "Gravity" is the April 21 presentation. There will be no film on April 28 because of the spring book sale.
Teen Book Club

Summer is coming, and that means no more homework, the pool is open, and the real fun is about to start at the Library! Just in time for the Summer Reading Program, the Library is kicking off the Magic Word Book Club for ages 10 and up. The club's goal is to delve into and luxuriate in the magic of reading a great story. The titles we will be reading will have a magical twist to the story, and we will discuss characters, design our own mythical creatures, do magic crafts, and even get to meet an author in the fall!

Due to pre-teen themes and reading levels, book club members must be at least 10 years old, but there is no age limit. That means the club is open to parents, grandparents, caregivers, cousins, and general magic lovers. It is a free program, and at the first meeting on Tuesday, May 6, at 4 p.m., you will get your first book. Pre-registration is necessary so we can make sure we order enough books for club members. Please stop by the Children's Room at the Library or call 928-282-7714 (option 3) to sign up.

Digital Literacy Classes/Computer Classes in Espaol!

Sedona Public Library regularly offers free digital literacy and basic computer classes. Spanish computer classes for native Spanish speakers help address the digital divide in our local Hispanic community.

Two free computer classes taught in Spanish will be offered on Friday, April 11 and 18. Each class is 90 minutes long and will cover basic computer skills. Seating is limited and registration is highly encouraged. We invite the Sedona community to share information regarding these classes:

  • "Creating and Using an Email Account" will be held on April 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • "Introduction to the Internet/How to Navigate the Internet" will take place on April 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

For more information, please contact the Latino Services Librarian at 928-282-7714 ext. 133 or by email at pespinosa@sedonalibrary.org. Click here to see our bilingual flyer.
