Catalog and Phone System Upgrades
  • On December 19, the Yavapai Library Network, of which Sedona Public Library is a member, will be replacing the current online library catalog with an updated version. With the new catalog, you can still place holds, review your checkouts and due dates, renew items, and more. In addition to a different look, the new catalog will feature enhancements that will make tasks such as placing holds on multiple items and creating lists easier.

More details about the new catalog will be announced soon on our website. Our goal is help make the conversion to the new catalog as smooth as possible for you. We welcome your questions.

  • On December 5, after the Library closes, we'll be installing a new phone system. While we don't anticipate any interruption in service, we appreciate your patience the following day as we become familiar with our new equipment.
Quilt Show
The Library's annual quilt show runs from December 26, 2013, through February 6, 2014. This popular community event features over 50 traditional and contemporary quilts, many created by area residents.
Join Friends of the Library
The 2014 membership drive for the Friends of Sedona Library is underway. Recently, residents of the Sedona area were mailed an invitation to join or renew their membership in the Friends of the Library. Please return your completed membership form (also available at the Library) and be a Friend. It's a valuable investment in your Library's future.

The Friends provide more than $100,000 annually toward the Library's budget. Book sales and other fundraisers bring in more than half of this amount, but the membership drive is still a priority. Your financial assistance is much appreciated.
Mark the Date for "A World of Holiday Fun"
Every year, Sedona Public Library presents an annual holiday program for children. "A World of Holiday Fun" will feature interactive multicultural stories of the season, music, a craft activity, snacks, and a puppet show for children. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will end the program with a story, wishes, and photo opportunities. This free library program begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, and will take place in the Si Birch Community Room.

Drop in and enjoy the Children's Room anytime over the holiday break. A great crew of volunteers recently chose to spend the afternoon in the Children's Room putting the books in order, polishing woodwork, sanitizing our Mr. Potato Head and Lego pieces, repairing stuffed animals, and creating new gnome family members to inhabit the tree house. Thank you to our Mitzvah Day volunteers for helping make the Children's Room shine!
December Movies at the Library
Monday nights in December, join us for free films at 6 p.m. in the Si Birch Community Room.

On December 2, Latino Services will present a drama from Mexico entitled "Piedras Verdes" ("Mystic Stones"). The selection for teen movie night (adults also welcome), on December 9, is  "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones." "The Deep," an Icelandic film featuring a miraculous survival story, will be shown on December 16. The classic musical comedy "Holiday Inn" is our December 23 presentation. Shakespeare's "Richard II" comes to life in our December 30 film "The Hollow Crown," a non-theatrical adaptation of the historical play.
Library Events in the Village
  • Rotating Artist Program:  Display of colorful quilts, created and donated by the Red Rock Quilters, continues through December. These quilts are made for kids who attend Camp Soaring Eagle, a year-round camping program for children with serious illnesses. Purchase a raffle ticket to win a quilt of your choice. Proceeds from this raffle will benefit SPL-V and Camp Soaring Eagle.
  • Community Book Discussion at Sedona Winds, 400 Jacks Canyon Road, on Monday, December 16. The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 1:30 p.m. Monica Lane of the Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library will facilitate the discussion of "Animal Dreams," by Barbara Kingsolver. You may pick up a loaner copy of the book at SPL-V.

Sedona Public Library in the Village is located at 7000 Highway 179, Suite C-102. Contact Cheryl Yeatts, Manager, at 928.284.1603 or voc@sedonalibrary.org if you have questions or need directions to SPL-V.

End-of-Year Giving to the Library
As we approach the end of 2013, it's time to consider tax-deductible gifts. You rely on our extensive collection of books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines, our online resources, and our free programs. Can we rely on you to lend your support by December 31?

Sedona Public Library is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, supported by donations and grants. Your tax-deductible donation may be made online or sent to:  Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336.
