Events at the Library
Access our online events calendar to view the monthly schedule of programs at the Library, including these upcoming events:
  • Volunteer Holiday Brunch: Library volunteers are invited to celebrate the holidays at a Nutcracker-themed brunch on Sunday, December 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Library. Enjoy the camaraderie of other volunteers and staff members while sampling delicious entrees and side dishes.
  • Health Lecture: On Thursday, December 8, from 5 to 6 p.m., attend "Mindful Eating: How Our Thoughts About Eating Impact Weight and Wellness," a free health lecture sponsored by Northern Arizona Healthcare and presented by a registered dietitian nutritionist.
  • Coffee with a Vet: This month's Coffee with a Vet program will feature guest speaker Lt. Colonel Thomas R. Waldron, who will talk about his experiences flying combat rescue missions, including a raid on the Son Tay POW camp in North Vietnam in 1970. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, December 9.
  • Consumer Fraud Information: On Monday, December 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Library, volunteers from the Arizona Attorney General Sedona satellite office will be available to give information on consumer fraud, identity theft, and civil rights. While volunteers are not able to offer legal advice, they can help victims of consumer fraud file complaints.
Sedona Receives Star Library Recognition
Sedona Public Library has been recognized as a Star Library among its peers for the third year in a row by "Library Journal" magazine. Only eight libraries in the state of Arizona received this award in 2016.

No honor would be complete, however, without also acknowledging the "Star" library community located here in Sedona!
Join Friends of the Library
The 2017 membership drive for the Friends of the Sedona Library is underway, and current members of the Friends group will receive their renewal forms in the mail.

If you're not already a Friend, please join by completing this form. It's a valuable investment in your library's future!

The Friends provide more than $100,000 annually toward the Library's budget. Book sales and other fundraisers bring in more than half of this amount, but the membership drive is still a priority. Your financial assistance is much appreciated.
Movies in December
Take time out during the holidays to enjoy a free movie at the Library. Screenings start at 6 p.m. in the community room. Please note there will be no movie on Monday, December 26.

December 5: Our Little Sister, a Japanese drama about three siblings who begin a joyful new life of discovery after they take in their orphaned half-sister.

December 12: Star Trek: Beyond, an action-packed space adventure with Captain Kirk and his crew.

December 19: Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Meryl Streep as a New York City heiress who is certain she can become an opera star despite her horrid singing voice.
2016 Annual Appeal

Please consider making an end-of-year donation to Sedona Public Library. We are grateful for continued support from the City of Sedona, Coconino and Yavapai Counties, and the Friends of the Sedona Library, but it's not enough. We have a 20% gap to fill, and your dollars directly impact the success of the Library. Your gifts will support the extensive collection of books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines that you rely on and the many services we provide.

Sedona Public Library is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and your one-time, or recurring, tax-deductible donation may be made online or sent to Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336. You may also give directly to Sedona Public Library in the Village. Click here for more information or call our development director Anne Marie Mackler at 928-282-7714, ext. 125. Thanks!
Happy Holiday Program for Youth
How exciting! The annual Happy Holiday family event will be held on Saturday, December 10. The fun starts at 11 a.m. in the community room with interactive stories, live music, and crafty activities for children. We've invited Mr. and Mrs. Claus, too!

In December, we'll continue most of our regular youth programming, including three story time classes each week, after-school activities from 1 to 4 p.m. on the early-release first Wednesday of each month, chess club on Thursdays, and computer code club every Friday after school. Pop-up programming is added to the online calendar, so check often for updates. Happy holidays!

Donor Spotlight
Gordon Reiter, a retired pharmacist and resident of the Village of Oak Creek, has been the world over, having worked across the Southwest and Alaska as an employee of U.S. Public Health Service, as well as having travelled in Europe, Africa, and Nepal. He settled here 13 years ago and loves the great hikes, including one of his favorite summits, Bell Rock.

But hiking isn't the only thing that Gordon loves about Sedona. "It is very important to have a library in a community, especially with great programs for kids," Gordon says. For Gordon, giving to Sedona Public Library comes naturally. He explains, "I am so glad to help with anything that makes the community better." According to Gordon, Sedona Public Library, in West Sedona, and at Bell Rock Plaza, does exactly that.

Library Events in the Village
  • Arizona Humanities Program: On Monday, December 5, Jody Drake will present "On the Arizona Frontier: Ranch Medicine."
