Happy holidays from all of us at Sedona Public Library!
Sedona Receives Star Library Recognition
"Library Journal" magazine has announced the Star Libraries for 2018--and Sedona Public Library has done it again!  For the fifth year in a row, the Library has been recognized as a Star Library among its peers. Less than 4% of eligible libraries nationwide received this award for superior performance, including only five libraries in the state of Arizona.

We are grateful to the entire Sedona community--your support enables us to achieve this honor year after year!
Displays at the Library
The Library's annual quilt show, organized by Quilter's Store Sedona, will run from Friday, December 21, 2018 through Thursday, February 14, 2019. We hope that you will stop by the Library as our community pays tribute to the talents of local quilters.

Also, Sedona resident Celeste York will be showcasing her handmade dollhouses in a display at the Library. View these detailed miniatures through the month of December in the center stacks.
Holiday Fun for Youth
Our December early-release-from-school event will be a Romp a Pom-Pom Crafternoon! Drop by the community room on Wednesday, December 5, at 1 p.m. and learn how to make pom-pom buddies, pom-pom pinecones, and pomanders. Supplies, instructions, and holiday recipe and craft books will be provided.

Our annual Happy Holiday program is on Saturday, December 8, at 11 a.m. Families are invited to enjoy festive music and dance with the Foldes family, make winter crafts and play simple games, chat and nibble on healthy snacks provided by Natural Grocers, and watch a balloon artist create and share. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, too!

Dates and times for other December activities, such as book club, story time, family movies, and chess club, can be found on our online events calendar.

Gifts for Seniors Tree
Be a Santa to a senior by purchasing a gift from the Verde Valley Caregivers holiday tree in the Library. The tree is decorated with tags listing gifts that have been requested by our elderly neighbors. Take a tag and return the designated gift to the Library (with tag attached). Thank you for helping a senior this holiday season!
Movies in December
Join us in December for screenings of popular new releases, as well as the final movie in our 60th anniversary film series. Movies start at 6 p.m. in the community room. Please note there will be no screenings on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
  • December 3: Crazy Rich Asians, a romantic comedy set in an ultra-wealthy enclave of Singapore.
  • December 10: Angel and the Badman, starring John Wayne as an outlaw who takes refuge with a Quaker family. Discussion to follow screening.
  • December 17: Puzzle, about a woman who finds fulfillment when she enters a jigsaw puzzle competition.
Library Events in the Village
  • Arizona Humanities Program: Join speaker Wayne Ranney for his presentation "In the Footsteps of Martha Summerhayes" on Monday, December 10, at 1:30 p.m. Martha Summerhayes was the author of "Vanished Arizona: Recollections of the Army Life of a New England Woman," which recounts her experiences in the Arizona Territory in the 1870s. Ranney has a personal connection to the Summerhayes family, which he will share during his presentation.

The program will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 Rojo Drive, in the Village of Oak Creek. Sponsored by Arizona Humanities and Friends of the Sedona Library, the presentation is free and open to the public.
