Want to visit more farms this summer? The Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society has created farm passports for the summer. Stop by participating libraries (Aquinnah, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, and West Tisbury) to pick up one for yourself or your family. Visit eight farm stands or markets, stamp your passport, and return to a participating library before the end of August to receive a prize! All ages are welcome to participate.

This workshop, led by LGBTQ+ consultant and workshop leader Ali Kane, encourages individuals at all levels of understanding to learn about the foundational principles of gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ+ allyship. Ali will discuss what it means to be LGBTQ+ and how you can be a better ally for your community, so that all feel welcome to be their authentic selves.

Opera Club: Verdi’s Falstaff

Whether you’re a fan of Verdi, Shakespeare, fabulous singing, comedy, or nostalgia, Robert Carsen's witty and thoughtful production of Verdi's Falstaff has all the bases covered. The great baritone Ambrogio Maestri plays the title character, and James Levine leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The libretto was adapted from The Merry Wives of Windsor. In Italian with English subtitles, the opera runs three hours, including intermission. All adults are welcome.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to shuck an oyster, clam, or scallop? Sign up for this workshop to learn all aspects of Island shellfish, from preparation to the ecological importance of buying local. You'll leave with not only some delicious shellfish, but also with the knowledge of how to process your next harvest. This month, we will be learning how to shuck some of our island's finest bounty: local oysters.
Please note: consuming raw or undercooked seafood or shellfish may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.

Jaws Photo Scan-a-Thon for Amity Week

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the filming of Steven Spielberg's Jaws, shot in 1974 on location all over the Vineyard to bring to life the fictional Amity Island. To celebrate, the Edgartown Board of Trade is hosting events throughout the weekend as part of Amity Week. The Edgartown Library is partnering with a photo scan-a-thon to capture and archive photos taken during the movie's filming in order to share Jaws history with the public. Bring your photographs to the library anytime during open hours, and we'll scan them into a central database that will document this significant cinematic period in island history.

Join professional artist and art educator Jennifer Burkin for a group acrylic painting class. You will create your own painting inspired by the work and techniques of Georgia O’Keefe. Jennifer has been an artist and an art educator for over thirty years. She lives in Chilmark, where she creates art and teaches drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media to both children and adults.

Mah Jongg Instruction for Beginners (or a Refresher)

Learn or review the fundamentals of American Mah Jongg, a socially engaging game that requires practice, strategy, and some luck! You will become familiar with the National Mah Jongg League rules while gaining an understanding of the basics, the tiles, reading the card, the Charleston, and game play. Come meet new people and have fun learning this three-to-four-player game.

Please note: you must be able to commit to all four classes, as each class will build on the previous one. Classes will take place on Mondays in June (June 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th).

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program | |
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
