Welcome to Sedona Public Library's first monthly e-newsletter!  We'll be providing you with information about new services and alert you to interesting events that the Library sponsors.  If you do not wish to receive future newsletters, you may unsubscribe.  You will still receive notification of overdue items and items on hold.  We will never sell or distribute your personal information.  I hope you find this inaugural newsletter of value.

Ginny Volkman, Library Director
Register for Free Books for Preschoolers

Dolly Parton's Imagination LibraryOn March 9, the Rotary Club of Sedona will host a fun-filled Imagination Library registration event for children under the age of five, living in Sedona or the Village of Oak Creek.  Launched by country music star Dolly Parton and the Dollywood Foundation, the Imagination Library fosters a love of reading among preschool children by providing them with a free book every month from birth to the age of five.  The Rotary Club of Sedona is covering the cost of the ongoing program!  Each month, through the mail, every registered child will receive an age-appropriate book from the Imagination Library.  The only requirements for a child to register are to be under the age of five and to live in Sedona or VOC.

The Rotary Club of Sedona will be registering children at both the Sedona Public Library event and at Sedona Public Library in the Village from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm on March 9.

Statue Installed and Dedicated
Statue in Honor of Marv HofmannWe depend on volunteers on a daily basis to operate and govern the Library.  One tireless volunteer who served on the Library Board was honored at a recent ceremony.  The new statue that was installed in the driveway median was dedicated to Marv Hofmann, who passed away in October.  The plaque reads: DEDICATED IN MEMORY OF MARV HOFMANN: LEADER, MENTOR, FRIEND for his VOLUNTEER SERVICE to the SEDONA PUBLIC LIBRARY.  DONATED BY VILLEGAS LANDSCAPING.
Free Tax Preparation Help
The Library is fortunate to have a dedicated group of AARP volunteers who come each year to help people with their tax returns.  Years ago, it was a service limited to the elderly but that is no longer the case.  Volunteers are available in the Si Birch Community Room on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm.  The AARP Tax-Aide service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.  The volunteers will be working through April 17, the filing deadline.  For more information about what to bring with you, click here.
Library Offers E-Books and E-Reader Workshops

Logo OverdriveE-books are hugely popular nationwide, and the Library is working to meet the demand in our community.  Library patrons not only have access to a growing collection of free e-books (and downloadable audiobooks) through the Library's OverDrive service, but can also attend regularly scheduled e-book workshops.  These workshops introduce participants to the process of downloading library e-books onto the most common e-reader devices. Register for Kindle workshops by calling the Library or signing up at the reference desk.  Workshops on downloading e-books to other devices are also taught monthly. Call or look on the events calendar for a complete schedule.

Renew by Phone or Online
Avoid overdue fines with a phone call! The Library now offers renewal-by-phone. Simply call 928-771-5820.  Follow the prompts to extend the checkout of any of your renewable items.  You'll need to enter your library card number and your PIN (by default, the last four digits of your primary telephone number) and then follow the prompts.

You can also renew online. Visit the Library's website and select "Search Catalog" under "Find Books & More." In the upper-right hand corner enter your barcode (library card number) and PIN, then click "Login." Next choose "My Account," which will display your account management options.

Some materials (including DVDs, popular items marked with pink tape, new items marked with yellow tape, and items requested by other patrons) are not renewable.

Library Board Welcomes Trustee Applications

Share your experience, your vision, your energy.  The Library Board welcomes interested persons who have a commitment to the Sedona Public Library, its values and its importance to the community to apply for Board membership. Instead of being administered by a county or city government, your Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and, as such, the Board is a governing body that works with the Library Director to manage and operate a public library.  For more information about the type of experience and interests the Board is seeking in new members, click here.

Pick up an application at the Sedona Library or Village location, or email your interest.  If you would like to speak to a Board member about your potential interest, call 928-282-6611.  Completed applications are due Friday, March 23, 2012.
