To launch our month-long series of Italian cinema, we’re screening director Martin Scorsese’s landmark four-hour documentary on Italian film. [In Person] Opera Club: Rossini’s Le Comte Ory
Sunday, March 6
1pm
|
|
Opera lovers unite! A delicious romp with gorgeous music, Rossini's final comic opera is not well known, but it should be. The Metropolitan Opera’s hit 2011 production by Bartlett Sher twirls an already dizzy plot and casts it with young bel canto singers who are now the backbone of the Met's roster. Soprano Diana Damrau is the Countess Adele, the object of desire of both the page Isolier (mezzo Joyce DiDonato) and the Count of the title (tenor Juan Diego Florez) who spends half of the opera disguised as a nun. Maurizio Benini leads the Met Opera Orchestra and Chorus through Rossini’s sparkling score. English subtitles.
Please note, all attendees must wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times.

And then she must envision a place to exhibit her treasures so that the world can share her passion. Art historian Janet Mandel will examine the lives of three remarkable women who defied society’s expectations: Isabella Stewart Gardner, Helene Kröller-Müller, and Peggy Guggenheim.
