The Edgartown Public Library is partnering with the Martha's Vineyard Hospital to offer free, health-related programs to the community, presented by doctors and medical professionals from the hospital. The Friends of the Edgartown Free Public Library is a vibrant and passionate association of volunteers whose mission is to raise funds to support the library's outstanding programming. Also this month, dine for a good cause. Join family and friends for a delicious meal at Rockfish on Tuesday, March 11 from 5pm-close, and Rockfish will donate 15% of all food sales that evening to the Friends of the Edgartown Public Library!

Community Drumming with Rick Bausman

Join drummer and educator Rick Bausman for this drumming class series. No prior experience is necessary. Dress comfortably and be prepared for a workout!
March 3rd: Cuban styles; Bembe; Guaguanco
March 10th: Haitian ceremonial drumming; Yanvalou Franc; Kongo

Opera Club: Puccini’s Tosca

From the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, March's Opera Club presents the renowned Jonathan Kent production of Puccini's Tosca. Filmed live in 2011, this atmospheric and intense potboiler features three of the greatest singers of that decade: bass/baritone Bryn Terfel as the sadistic Scarpia, tenor Jonas Kaufmann as Tosca's lover, Cavaradossi, and soprano Angela Gheorghiu as the diva, Floria Tosca. Maestro Antonio Pappano conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra through Puccini's thrilling, dramatic score.
Sung in Italian with English subtitles, the opera runs approximately two hours, plus intermission. All adults are welcome.

AARP Free Tax Help

Volunteers, certified and trained under the AARP Tax Aide Program, will be offering free income tax preparation assistance at the library for taxpayers, with a special emphasis on those sixty years and older.
An additional session will be offered on Tuesday, April 8th. Sessions are by appointment only. Please call the Edgartown Council on Aging at 508-627-4368 to secure an appointment.

Join the Edgartown Climate & Energy Committees for an informational session on Edgartown’s proposed 2025 Leaf Blower Warrant Article. Representatives from both committees will share the article and answer questions. The article will impact all Edgartown residents, homeowners, and landscapers. Community Poetry Reading with Claudia Taylor

Join us for a poetry reading featuring members of the community. All are welcome to read their own work, recite a favorite poem, or simply come to listen. Each poet will have a maximum of 10 minutes to read. To sign up to be a reader, please email programs@edgartownlibrary.org. Readers will be selected in the order of sign-up.
This reading will be hosted by Adult Programs Coordinator Claudia Taylor, the Martha’s Vineyard Poet Laureate for 2024-2026. Claudia will introduce the reading with her poetry and a brief discussion about her role as Poet Laureate.

Join Library Director Lisa Sherman in taking on the 2025 Reading Challenge! All year long, book group participants may select a book of their choosing based on each month's theme, and we'll get together to discuss our selections. Theme-related book recommendations for this month are offered here, but participants may select any book related to the theme. March’s challenge is “a book about someone with a marginalized identity.”

Sound Bath with Trish Ginter

A sound bath creates an environment that allows you to pause and deeply listen, immerse yourself in sound, and offer your mind and body moments of reprieve and restoration. This experience will be led by Trish Ginter, who will use crystal singing bowls as well as other instruments to create a soundscape that will help you relax and explore deep listening.
Limited yoga mats and blankets are available; if you have your own, please bring them with you.

[Online] Build It, Build It Better: Poetry Workshop with Donald Nitchie

In this monthly writing workshop with poet Donald Nitchie, participants will have an opportunity to create their own poem, prompted by a selection of poetry which will be read at the beginning of the workshop. Poets will also have a chance to read and discuss their own poem during the second half of the workshop, although there is no pressure to share. This workshop is perfect for beginning writers or anyone curious about writing in groups.
Once registered, you will receive the workshop materials by email. The focus of March’s workshop is “repurposed language.” Participants will write a poem using or referencing official or conventional phrases that we are exposed to every day.

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program | |
|
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
