New System at Checkout and Check-in

This month, the Library will switch over to a faster and more accurate means of checking in and out items: RFID, which stands for "radio frequency identification."

Over the last six months, thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, the Library was able to prepare our more than 76,000 items for the transition. The new system will be easier for volunteers to learn and use, and will allow us to add a self-checkout machine.

We appreciate your understanding as we iron out any wrinkles with the improved system, and (as always) we welcome your feedback.

Festival of Wreaths
Wreath It's coming soon! Sunday, November 11, is the date for the Friends of the Library's Festival of Wreaths Preview Gala and Sale.

This is the event that kicks off the local holiday season with fabulous refreshments, music, sale of wreaths and other handmade original creations, and a raffle of amazing items, starting at 5 p.m. Tickets for the gala are on sale now and will be sold at the door the night of the event. Ticket prices are $15 each, or two for $25.

Tickets are also on sale for a special raffle for a necklace created by George Kelly Jewelry. A limited number of tickets will be sold at $10 each, or three for $25. The drawing for the necklace will be held at the Festival of Wreaths Gala, and the winner need not be present to win.

All artistic donations are due on Friday, November 9, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the main library in West Sedona or at the Village location in Tequa Plaza between 1 and 4 p.m.

The Friends of the Library, which is responsible for raising $100,000 annually, has decided to host the Festival of Wreaths every other year, so the next event won't occur until 2014.

Support the Library While You Shop
Bashas card The Bashas' Community Card is the Friends of the Library's latest effort to raise funds. Use the Bashas' Community Card when you shop at all Bashas', AJ's Fine Foods, Food City, Bashas' Dine, and Eddie's Country Store locations, to earn dollars for the Friends of the Library. All you need to do is purchase a Community Card at the Library's reference desk for $10 (they are not available for purchase at Bashas').

Your card comes pre-loaded with $10. Prior to the cashier ringing up your grocery order, ask them to load money onto your Community Card. You can use cash, check, or debit or credit card to put whatever amount you want on the card. Once the card is loaded, use it just like a prepaid gift card to make your purchase. At the completion of your grocery purchase, you will receive a register slip showing the amount left on your card. Each time you load dollars onto your Community Card, the Friends of the Sedona Library receives 6% of that amount. Using the Community Card does not cost you any more money than you would normally spend on groceries.
NAU "Hot Topics" Discussion: Climate Change

On November 6 at 5:30 p.m., join us for Hot Topics Café, a program that creates a forum for civil discourse about timely political topics, chosen by a diverse community committee.

These conversations emphasize respect for all persons, and all viewpoints are welcome. This month's topic is climate change. Click here for more information.
