Veterans History Project Interviews on DVD
Experience a piece of history by watching American veterans tell their unique stories. The Veterans History Project of Sedona is making available a collection of 65 interviews on DVD that you can view on library computers. Interviews are 30 to 90 minutes long and are indexed by name, conflict, and branch of service. Each features a local veteran or a veteran with a local connection. The number of interviews on DVD will increase as more veterans participate. For more information about the Veterans History Project or to watch an interview, stop by the reference desk.
October Movies at the Library
This month, the Flicker Shack film series will present three free recent-release films at 6 p.m. on Monday nights in the Si Birch Community Room. The Latino Services selection, playing on October 7, is "Bless Me, Ultima," adapted from Rudolfo Anaya's novel. A modern take on the Shakespearean comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" will be shown on October 14. There will be no movie on October 21, due to the fall book sale. The documentary "We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks," a film by acclaimed director Alex Gibney, is our October 28 presentation.
Story Time, Stamp Fair, and Legos
In addition to the Library's three weekly story programs for children, watch for special events!
  • Local philatelists are presenting a free, day-long postage stamp fair on Saturday, October 5, in the Si Birch Room. The fair is for everyone and will include hands-on activities and a stamp design contest for children. In the children's room, Saturday Story Stop will tie into the post office theme with stories, music, letter writing, and envelope making. Now, where would we find a stamp?
  • The Library Lego program is starting up again. Drop in for an opportunity to meet fellow builders. You can use the Library's Legos or bring your own. The group meets October 7 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the Quiet Study.
Displays in October
The works of local textile artists and photographers will be on display at the Library this month.

The Verde Valley Weavers and Spinners exhibit, which runs through October 12, features beautiful handmade creations and live demonstrations. Additionally, members of the Sedona Camera Club are displaying selected photographs in the center stacks the entire month of October.
Have You Looked at a NOOK?
This summer, the Library introduced NOOK e-readers that can be borrowed for three weeks and are preloaded with a selection of over 20 fiction and nonfiction books. Some of the titles available have since been local book club picks, such as "The Light Between Oceans," "Where'd You Go, Bernadette," and "Gone Girl." If you previously missed the chance to check out a NOOK, now is a great time to experience using one. You can confirm availability by calling in advance or searching the catalog for "Nook ereader." We usually have several NOOKs in stock, both at the main library and at SPL-V. Take one on your next trip!
