Adult Programs

[In Person] Movement for Wellness, with Tessa Permar

Mondays (no class on 10/10)

10am

Tessa Permar has taught movement for over 15 years and draws from traditions of yoga, tai chi, Pilates, modern dance, acrobatics, Capoeira, and voice work. Participants will be led through a series of gentle exercises to release tension and connect to each individual’s personal range of motion and sense of well-being. This workshop encourages exploration of movement, gentle strength-building, and connection to music. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you. The library will have a limited number of mats available for use. All body types, abilities, and levels are welcome.


Registration is requested.


Classes will be on October 3, 17, 24, and 31.

[In Person] Vinyasa Power Yoga, with Colleen Macsuga (all levels)

Colleen Macsuga leads a Vinyasa class that is therapeutic, creative, and powerful. Vinyasa (a practice designed to help you heal while keeping you in peak physical shape) incorporates elements of strength building, making it a dynamic experience. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you. The library will have a limited number of mats available for use. All levels are welcome; each pose is guided from the foundation to the full expression.

[In Person] Celebrating Bats, with Film Truth Productions and BiodiversityWorks

Join us for an informative evening celebrating bats! Liz Witham and Ken Wentworth of Film Truth Productions will show a short documentary on BiodiversityWorks' bat research. Afterwards, Liz Olson, wildlife biologist and assistant director of BiodiversityWorks, will share an update on their research and how you can help our island’s bat population. There will be a Q&A session to end the evening. The research was funded by Martha’s Vineyard Vision Fellowship and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Small Grants Program.

[In Person] Ukraine's Global Impact: a discussion with

Michael Quinlan

Michael Quinlan, founder of EDM Publications, will be giving an in-depth lecture on the current state of Ukraine as they fight for their homeland. You will learn why Russia invaded the country, what aspects of the invasion have gone wrong, and the long-term implications of Putin accomplishing (or not accomplishing) his goals. A Q&A will follow the discussion.

[Online] The Galileo Project: In Search of Technological Interstellar Objects, with Professor Avi Loeb

The search for extraterrestrial life is one of the most exciting topics in science. Presented by Harvard University Professor of Science Avi Loeb, the recently announced "Galileo Project" ushers in the new frontier of "space archeology", the search for extraterrestrial technological relics. This lecture will feature content from the books "Extraterrestrial" and "Life in the Cosmos," both published in 2021.

[Online] Chef Look Cooks: Elote Panzanella Salad (Mexican Street Corn Bread Salad)

With the departure of summer still fresh in his mind, Chef Look will be combining the best of the summer harvest with a classic Italian salad. The intense flavors of elote (familiarly known as Mexican street corn) will be merged with Italian panzanella salad, showing that it is possible to have the best of both worlds.

[In Person] Lyme Disease Vaccine Trial Informational Session

As many Islanders know, Lyme disease is a common illness caused by tick bites, and can cause serious long-term symptoms if left untreated. Right now there are no approved vaccines for Lyme disease, but a vaccine clinical trial is currently underway through Care Access, which will hopefully lead toward preventing Lyme disease in people ages 5 and older. If you would like more information about the clinical trial or about Lyme disease, please stop by during this informational session. Representatives from Care Access will be here to answer all your questions.

[In Person] Open Mic Night at EPL

Calling all performance artists, musicians, and poets! Starting in October, we will be hosting an open mic night on the last Wednesday of every month. This will be a space to practice, encourage, and connect with other artists. Come work on the performance of a new song, practice a monologue for an upcoming play, or tell a story you would like to share; there will even be room for movement to perform a dance piece. Or just come to watch, listen, support, and connect with our creative community. Performances will be capped at 8 minutes.

Kids can get their bodies moving on Wednesday afternoons in October on the library lawn, weather permitting. This after-school youth fitness program will offer healthy activities incorporating simple cardio, agility, and mind over matter drills. No registration necessary. For kids 8 and older.

Join Elyce in the Program Room for a movement-based storytime using fun props and interactive stories. This program is geared toward ages 1-5, but all are welcome.

Story Walk at Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary

The Edgartown Library and Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation have partnered to bring you a story walk every month.

This self-guided activity takes place at the Sheriff's Meadow Sanctuary and is for children of all ages and their caregivers.

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
