Library Closed on Labor Day
The Library will be closed on Monday, September 2, for Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, September 3. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
Upcoming Displays at the Library
This month, several local organizations will be presenting displays or informational tables at the Library. The City of Sedona's community plan information will be on display the entire month of September. During the third week of September, the Oak Creek chapter of the DAR will commemorate Constitution Week with their display in the circulation area. On September 11 and 12, information about fall classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will be available at a table near the front entrance. Starting September 23 and continuing through the second week in October, members of the Verde Valley Weavers and Spinners group will demonstrate their crafts and skills.
Computer Classes Start in September
Feeling left out of the digital revolution? Learn basic computer skills at our upcoming beginning computer classes this fall. In these workshops, students will receive an introduction to Windows 7 and learn to navigate the desktop. Classes are offered on Thursday, September 12, and Tuesday, September 17, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. To get the most out of the classes, students should have familiarity with using a mouse and keyboard. Class size is limited; reserve a spot by calling 928-282-7714 and asking for reference, or stop by the reference desk in person.
Afterschool Action for Kids
Kids The Youth Services department at the Library offers ongoing afterschool activities in the children's room, including origami, sketching, poetry exercises, and computer games. Afterschool movies begin at 3:30 p.m. on the big screen in the Si Birch Room on the last Wednesday of each month. Also, children 10 and over are invited to join in the Chess Club, which happens every Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Just a reminder, children under 10 years of age must have their parent or responsible caregiver in the Library during their visit.
Flicker Shack Movies in September
Movie: The Great Gatsby Join us for free movies on Monday nights in September at 6 p.m. in the Si Birch Community Room. Please note that there will be no movie on Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Latino Services presents a Mexican film in Spanish with English subtitles on September 9. On September 16, we'll screen "Stories We Tell," a new documentary by Sarah Polley. Music lovers should mark their calendars for the September 23 film "The Sapphires," based on the true story of an Australian aboriginal soul act that entertained U.S. troops in Vietnam. The recent screen adaptation of "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is our September 30 presentation.
