Welcome to the September newsletter from the Jonathan Bourne Public Library! We hope to see you in person in the JBPL this month. Here's a list of what we have going on.

Poetry Workshop


Announcing an 8 Week poetry workshop with Jack Dewitt. The course requires no experience with poetry just some curiosity and a willingness to try.


Events run 3:30-5:00PM


Series runs from September 11th through the end of October.

The Friends of the Jonathan Bourne Public Library are collecting your clean and in good condition book donations for their semi-annual sale.

Author Talk: Christie Lowrance & Liz Henry


Christie Lowrance will present a talk about The Last Heath Hen, her just-released conservation book for children and adults. In addition, Pocasset resident Liz Henry will talk about the beautiful original design quilt she made that is based on historic quilting patterns using Thornton Burgess characters.


THe Burgess Commemorative Quilt will be raffled off by the Thornton Burgess Society this fall. A QR code to purchase raffle tickets is on the poster and on the Thornton Burgess Society website.

Death With Dignity Lecture -

Roger Kligler


Roger Kligler visits the JBPL to speak about medical aid in dying, an option for terminally ill adults at the end of life to receive a prescription that they could ingest to alleviate unbearable suffering and die peacefully in their sleep. There is a bill (H2246/S1331 “An Act Relative to End of Life Options”) before the legislature in Massachusetts. This option is available in 10 states and the District of Columbia, but not yet in Massachusetts.

The Library's Friends organization is hosting their twice-a-year fund raising book sale at the JBPL. Please come and buy some great books and support programming at your library.

This program is for Bourne families with young kids, 8 weeks to 5 years.

The group meets at Aptucxet Trading Post and strolls the canal on sunny days. On rainy days we join story hour at JBPL.

On September 20th the Story Walk and Craft regular event will return to the Aptuxcet Trading Post. We'll meet at Aptucxet on Fridays at 10:30 am.
