Library Renovation Project Update - February 2019
Library Renovations continue into 2019
In this message you will learn about upcoming renovation plans, closing dates and alternate library locations in your area. Group 1 Renovations Nearing Completion Dates
Since closing in August 2018, renovations to libraries in Group 1 of the renovation project continued through the fall/winter seasons. We are pleased to announce completion dates for the following branches:

Dogwood: March 13, 2019
Kirkwood: March 8, 2019
Roswell: October 8, 2019
Sandy Springs: March 21, 2019
Southwest: March 22, 2019
Washington Park: March 8, 2019
West End: March 8, 2019

PLEASE NOTE: Completion dates are NOT re-opening dates. Library re-opening dates will be scheduled once all work is complete. All completion dates are subject to change. Continue to check our website for updates.

Group 4 - Fairburn and East Point Library Update
Group 4 libraries will be among the first completed renovations in the Library Renovation Project. East Point Library is currently scheduled to be completed on now closed for renovations. Both libraries are scheduled to complete construction on February 28, 2019. Once complete, staff will have the task of setting up the library for reopening, including stocking books, setting up and training on new technology and more. Stay tuned for re-opening celebration dates.

Central Library Will Remain Closed Until 2020
The Central Library Renovation Project is now underway, after several months of preparation for construction. Staff began the task of packing up offices, books, program materials and more in the Library System's largest library and system headquarters. Crews converted the parking garage into a climate controlled storage unit for the massive collection, while preparing the building for construction. Construction is expected to continue through May 2020.

Design work by firm Cooper Carry was completed last summer. Designs can be found on the library's website.

Group 2 Public Meetings and Closing Dates
A second round of public meetings are now being held at the five libraries included in Group 2 of the renovation project. Library patrons will have the opportunity to see the proposed plans for construction at each of the branches listed below. Patrons will also be able to ask questions about the plans and how they will address community needs in each of the branches being renovated.

Libraries in Group 2 include: Ocee, Buckhead, Northside, Northeast/Spruill Oaks and Mechanicsville Libraries.

Expected closing dates were recently announced for each of the libraries in Group 2.
Buckhead Library: expected closing date - May 6, 2019
Mechanicsville Library: expected closing date - June 24, 2019
Northeast/Spruill Oaks Library: expected closing date - May 6, 2019
Northside Library: expected closing date - May 6, 2019
Ocee Library: expected closing date - June 3, 2019

College Park Library - expected closing date - July 1, 2019
East Atlanta Library - expected closing date - September 16, 2019

Special Projects
Hapeville Library Project

The Hapeville Library will be renovated independently, with no other branches involved.

Public Meeting for community input, took place on February 26, 2018 and a second public meeting to share design plans was held September 27, 2018.

The Hapeville Library is expected to close to the public April 12, 2019 to begin construction.
Peachtree Library/ MLK Library

The Peachtree and MLK Libraries are currently residing in leased space and will be remodeled internally at a later date. No additional updates are available at this time.
