June 19th represents an important moment in US history. On this day in 1865 in Galveston, Texas, the 250,000 remaining enslaved people were freed. The following year, celebrations were held to commemorate this day and have continued annually since. In 2021, Juneteenth was signed into law as an official national holiday.
