Library Update
Issue 1
April 2021
Welcome to the first
Library Update.

For many years, Burman has been planning to make changes to the library to meet the needs of students and faculty members.

We’ve asked, “Shall we renovate? transform? build?” As we discussed options, prayed, and planned, we discovered that building a new library will cost about the same as renovating the current library. Our discussions, our plans, and our prayers continue, but now we’re ready for the next step of the journey: building a new library!

I invite you to join us on this adventure. In our monthly Library Update, you’ll hear about the project, making it possible for you to participate in the progress. This month, you'll learn answers to the questions WHAT, WHERE, HOW, and WHEN.

We look forward to traveling together.

WHAT WILL THE BURMAN LIBRARY LOOK LIKE?

The new 18,302 square foot library will feature study alcoves, group study rooms, study commons, an information commons, a makerspace, a classroom, and high density shelving. It’s a place that will foster learning, connecting, and belonging.

WHERE WILL THE LIBRARY BE BUILT?

The current library—built in 1950 as a cafeteria and campus store—is on the southern edge of campus. The new library will be built just west of the McKibbin Education Centre (what, at one point, was the gym) and north of Maple Hall.

HOW IS FUNDRAISING PROGRESSING?

As we move forward with planning and implementing this project, we’re thankful that many donors believe in Burman’s vision. Our fundraising goal has been $4.7 million for building costs before groundbreaking.

WHEN WILL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN?

Groundbreaking is scheduled for Sunday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. MDT. Mark it in your calendar and join us for a virtual program of dedication and groundbreaking. We hope you will join us for this event.
