21st Annual Read Across America

Drive-through event at Lincoln Square Mall

Join us at a drive-through and online to celebrate reading and learn more about organizations in the community!

Drive or walk through the parking lot at Lincoln Square Mall to receive a free book, bag, mask, and community resource pack.

Go online for storytelling, special performances, and an informational panel for adults.

Coordinated by Urbana Park District, Urbana School District 116, Altrusa International of C-U, IL Inc., Child Care Resource Center, Champaign Public Library, Illinois Early Intervention Clearinghouse, and The Urbana Free Library.
Black Herstory Slam!

This performance, featuring women from our community, is designed to promote creativity and connection! Hosted by Ashanti Files, the Poet Laureate of the City of Urbana.

Join our Teen Book Club where members get to choose the books that we read. Have a book you want to discuss? Let us know and we'll add it to the list! And if you don't have a copy of the book already, we'll provide one for you. Each week, we discuss a section of the book we're currently reading. Discussions are casual and fun, so come by to hang out and talk about great books!

To get a copy of the book we'll be reading, please register for the event and then schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment by calling 367-4405.

Crafty Story Time

Join us for the Zoom edition of Crafty Story Time for young children from ages 2-5! As with our in-person story time programs, we'll practice early literacy skills in a playful, supportive environment filled with music, rhymes, active learning, and of course, books! Pictionary Fun

Need something to do over the weekend? Join this event for some Pictionary fun! 

Come join the Volunteer Illini Projects family in collaboration with The Urbana Free Library for an hour of fun on Zoom! We will be playing a friendly game of Pictionary, in which UIUC volunteers will be drawing a specific word for all players to guess. A word bank will be available for everyone to get familiar with and view while playing.

Liliana Perez is the Daycare Project Director of Volunteer Illini Projects, a student-run organization, committed to peace, unity, and change. This project helps serve the community to provide a free space of learning and growing for kids. 

This event is for 4th-6th graders.

Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio featuring master storyteller, Dawn Blackman, who will introduce our young participants to the art of storytelling! Each young participant will have a chance to create their own stories and practice in telling them to a live audience!


The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public.

Reclaiming Our Time: Women's History Month Trivia Night!
