PARTNER CORNER
Providing Food to Those in Need with Second Harvest
In collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank  , in November and December the library offers its annual Food for Fines program. Anyone with outstanding library fines is invited to deliver nonperishable food items to any Redwood City Library. With a donation, those library customers with unpaid fines will leave the library with a cleared account and the great feeling of having helped others as the holidays approach.

Since 1988, Redwood City Public Library has provided 133,446 meals to the community through food drive efforts. Over 66 million pounds of nutritious food is delivered annually by Second Harvest Food Bank to low income people in need in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Over half of these people are children and seniors. These millions of pounds of food are provided free of charge to 300 local nonprofit agencies at more than 900 sites, including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and after-school programs.

In addition to Food for Fines, Project READ also partners with Second Harvest, allowing Project READ to provide their families and youth learners with nutritious and much needed food and snacks on a daily basis. Through these two Second Harvest programs, last month alone, Project READ gave out over 2,000 healthy snacks on site and provided 55 households multiple fresh produce bags, as well as pantry items, serving 386 children and 182 adults.
