April is National Poetry Month

Visual media is the dominant art form in our modern day culture, whereas poetry, at best, a proxy. Yet, poetry and film are both "dream factories."

This National Poetry Month, Saratoga Springs Public Library will celebrate the poetry of Denise Duhamel with not one, but two programs. Presidential Inaugural poet for Barack Obama's second term, Richard Blanco says of Duhamel, “Denise is a colleague and one of the first persons I read that allowed me to see the possibility of using humor and sarcasm and all those kinds of things in poetry that actually get to a greater truth than when we are being “deep.” Links to both programs, additional information, and the ability to register are listed above. We encourage you to join us as we welcome Denise and her amusing and thought-provoking work to SSPL.

In addition to Poetry Cafe on April 15 and our Poetry Reading with Denise on April 22, you may view our previously recorded Poets Talk Poetry video with her on our YouTube playlist, along with several other conversations with modern poets. And make sure to watch our Facebook NewsFeed in the coming weeks for inspiring poetry videos from our very own SSPL staff!
Spring Break at Your Library
While we anxiously await the opportunity to welcome children, tweens, and teens back into the library for in-person programming, we still have a few offerings available for the coming school vacation week. Check them out through this link and make sure to visit our online Events Calendar for additional youth programming all month long.
