PROGRAM IN HAND?

Hard Copy or Digital Program Guide for January & February


SSPL prints limited quantities of our Program Guide, which covers two months of programming at a time. This option is for those who wish to have a physical document highlighting our offerings. If you are comfortable with an online format, we encourage you to help us conserve resources by choosing that option, and visiting our online link to the guide or our Events Calendar at www.sspl.org where you will find these, other programming, details, and have the ability to register.

SaratogaREADS! Junior

Join us for our Virtual Discussions


Students in grades 4-6 residing in the Saratoga Springs City School District are invited to participate in this 2-session Junior Discussion program in cooperation with Skidmore College. In each session, participants will discuss the 2023 SaratogaREADS! Jr. book selection, Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga. Sessions will take place Mondays, February 6 and 13th at 4:30 p.m online.


Registration is required and can be done by having a parent or guardian send an email to [email protected] with all of the following information: the students' first and last name, parent's name, grade, teacher, and school. Participants will receive a FREE copy of the book to keep. Space is limited. Watch our YouTube video here.

Martin Luther King Day Programs at Your Library


Please join us in partnership with MLK Saratoga for a weekend long celebration honoring the work of Martin Luther King, Jr. The following programs will take place at Saratoga Springs Public Library on Saturday, January 14th.

How the Negro Got His Song

A Saturday morning performance and interactive storytelling workshop with Jae Gayle that begins with the African-American folktale about John the Conqueror.


Restorative Justice in Schools: Promoting and Protecting Dignity and Justice for Everyone

Presentation and panel discussion with Educators, Mediators and Students from South Glens Falls School District about why they use restorative practices in their schools. Moderated by Saratoga Educational Equity Network.


Erasing Spaces and Faces: The Legacy of Urban Renewal in Saratoga Springs is a social practice, public history and art project (by C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Art Studios) with a focus on the experience of those displaced during urban renewal projects in the city of Saratoga Springs. Join us for the unveiling of the multi-media exhibition, presentation and panel discussion with historians, artists and community members David Hochfelder, Meghan Willis, Maelcolm Thayer, Marcus Kwame Anderson, Jen Wojtowicz, Dio Kauffman and Joy King.

Saratoga Springs Area Preschool Fair Returns to SSPL


The annual Saratoga Springs Area Preschool Fair will be held in the Saratoga Springs Public Library's Children's Room from 10 a.m. - Noon on Saturday, January 28. The Fair will include the preschools listed below. Information about the schools and their programs will be available, as will school representatives to answer questions.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Better Off Read Book Discussion Group


Our Better Off Read Book Discussion Group has shifted away from mysteries and thrillers and will now focus on a variety of genres, including some narrative nonfiction. Better Off Read meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m. in the Glasby Room or the Susman Room of the library. Copies of each selection may be placed on hold or borrowed through the library. Please register each month through our online calendar or by calling 518-584-7860, ext. 304.

Saratoga in Fashion


What did the fashionable lady wear to take the waters and be seen in Saratoga Springs during its Victorian and early 19th Century heyday? Find out as Librarian Caitlin Sheldon leads you on a tour of fashion history through the lens of photographs of Saratoga Springs owned by the library's Saratoga Room. Join us Thursday, January 12 in the H. Dutcher Community Room. No registration required.

Seasonal Affective Disorder:

How a Change in Seasons can Affect Your Mood


The changing of the seasons cannot only affect the environment, but us as well. In this program presented by CDPHP, join local Wellbeing Coach and Consultant Kim Perone online with Zoom from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, January 12 as she talks about the cause of Seasonal Affective Disorder and ways to offset symptoms.
