There is great news to share this month!
The Arizona Opera will be honoring our Tucson League with the Crystal Key Award at the Annual Gala Luncheon on Saturday, March 14, 2020. I am hoping that ALL of you who are and have been so dedicated to Arizona Opera and who have lovingly supported the Tucson League for so many years will be able to join us for this wonderful celebration, and we have much to celebrate! The Tucson League was started 47 years ago by a small group of dedicated women who called themselves the “Opera Dames”. Together, we have donated over $1,000,000 in support of Arizona Opera with our events and activities. Together, we have been very loyal patrons, season ticket holders, and opera enthusiasts. Please join us in celebrating almost 50 years of ensuring that this beautiful art form is available in Tucson. Event details and a special price for Arizona Opera League of Tucson members follows.
In addition, next season’s repertoire was announced last month. The McDougall RED Series begins with Arizona Opera’s second World Premiere commission,
The Copper Queen
. The RED Series continues with the Regional Premiere of a new, holiday-themed mariachi opera,
El Milagro del Recuerdo
(The Miracle of Remembering). This opera is a prequel to the hugely popular
Cruzar la Cara de la Luna
, which Arizona Opera presented to great critical and popular acclaim during its 2014/15 season.
Next season’s three Main Stage Series begins with one of the most popular operas in the entire canon, Bizet’s
Carmen
, and continues with the romantic and charming comedy,
The Elixir of Love
. The Main Stage season is completed by a new production of
A Streetcar Named Desire
, presented in the Marlu Allan and Scott Stallard Modern Masterworks Series. Based upon the classic Tennessee Williams’ play, Streetcar, features a musical score by film composer, Andre Previn, in a new production that will be directed by the internationally-acclaimed operatic artist, Patricia Racette.
See you at the opera!
