Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Lidl, a German supermarket chain, will open a regional headquarters and distribution center in Alamance County. This project will create 80 full-time jobs and 120 hourly positions within the county. Of those jobs, administrative and management positions will have an average annual salary of $80,000, exceeding that of the county's average of $36,019. Lidl is the largest retailer in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
"Lidl is one of the best known grocery store names in Europe,: said Governor McCrory. "North Carolina will play a key role as the company begins its plans to enter the US market." Lidl currently has almost 10,000 stores in 26 countries. They are the largest retailer in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
"Congratulations to Lidl for making the decision to locate in Alamance County," said NC Representative Stephen Ross. "It will be a great economic boost for Graham, Mebane and all of Alamance County." The location in the new NC Commerce Park validates the great location and furthers improvements and upgrades in the infrastructure for future corporate tenants in the park.
The Alamance County Area Chamber of Commerce and Alamance County Economic Development Foundation were part of large team of organizations assisting the company with their location decision. Key partners included the City of Mebane, City of Graham, Alamance County, Elon University, NC Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of NC, NC Department of Transportation, NC Community College System, NC Rural Economic Development Division, the Golden Leaf Foundation, and NCWorks.
