Hello Volunteers,



Life Center for Independent Living (Life CIL) assists individuals with disabilities by sharing tools needed to take control of one's own life. They also promote equal opportunities and access by breaking down barriers and prejudices within communities.


Life CIL is urgently seeking ongoing volunteer receptionists to help them with their day-to-day center operations.



Times/Shifts of Volunteers needed:


Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning shifts:

  • 2-hour or 3-hour shift anytime between 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. noon


Tuesday and Thursday morning shifts:

  • 2-hour or 3-hour shift anytime between 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. noon


Tuesday and Thursday afternoon shifts:

  • 2-hour or 3-hour shift anytime between 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.



Volunteers will report to:


Life CIL 2201 Eastland Dr. #1, Bloomington, IL 61704.


COVID-19 Safety Guidelines: Not required at this time.


Description of Duties:


The volunteers will provide receptionist, switchboard, clerical, or other center support on an ongoing basis as assigned by the Administrative Services Director.


Specific duties may include:


  1. Answer calls, screen and transfer calls, and possibly take messages.
  2. Greet visitors to the office and alert staff regarding visitors.
  3. Assist with the Equipment Loan Program: a. locate needed equipment, b.assist in completing the necessary paperwork for equipment loan program and making changes on existing paperwork on file.
  4. Type and word process general correspondence, reports, and other documents as requested. Proofread to assure accuracy.
  5. Photocopy and compile materials as assigned.
  6. Assemble, fold, and sort large mailings.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of all consumer interactions and data.


Description of Impact: Volunteer receptionists would help Life CIL by answering phones and assisting with the equipment loan program, which would allow Life CIL staff to focus on program and administrative work.


Required Skills:


  1. Able to operate multi-line phone system, transfer calls, and record accurate telephone messages in clear English.
  2. Able to proofread documents, collate multi-page and multi-document materials in the correct order, and alphabetize and file documents.
  3. Able to operate standard office machines.
  4. Must maintain confidentiality of all consumer interactions and data.
  5. Must be able to work with moderate supervision.
  6. Must have dependable attendance.
  7. Must have own transportation to the office.
