Dear Readers:

WHAT HAPPENED AT AJ'S LAST SATURDAY:

I am writing this early at 2 pm because later I am going to see EARL MITCHELL out at Sun City. So I have the TV on and watching LET'S MAKE A DEAL and there's LAURA WOLFE who sang at my LA open mic and also I had her out to the desert a few times to perform in some shows. She won a diamond ring worth $3k then at the end 2 people who won more then her turned down playing the Big Deal then can you believe it, she did too but I have to say the ring was gorgeous. It turned out to be a very good night despite a smaller audience but we ended up with 12 singers which is pretty good and we were all in perfect voice and I had the sound just right. Mister Piano, JOEL BAKER sang the first song of the night "Some People" and later sang his parody of "New York, New York", then I sang "This Fellow Is A Tramp" with some new lyrics I made up at 7:15 before the show but they works fine, and later by request I did "Old Friend", then we had LARRY DOOLEY with some great songs including "The Street Where You Live", "Wee Small Hours of The Morning" and we had time for those who stayed to sing a 3rd song which for Larry was "Can You Read My Mind", which if memory serves me was the 1st time anyone has sung this at any of the open mics going back to my one at Vermont from 2000 to 2007, next was MARCIA HARP singing by request, "The Best Thing You've Ever Done", and "Birth Of The Blues" with all of us singing the title part, and later she sang "Who Can I Turn To", Marcia was there with her 'Bo' RENO who she's been coaching and promised he will sing with us soon, then we had PATTI GALLAGHER, her songs were "My Funny V alentine", and "I've Got The Sun In The Morning", then we were thrilled to see RUSS ROOF after a long absence there to sing "My Way" and "Unchained Melody" and he told us he and wife WINETTE will celebrate 62 years of marriage this week, and we had the fabulous PAT MCCANN doing "Where Or When", and "You Better Love Me While You May", she was there with NONI LAMBERTSON who sang "Here's That Rainy Day", "Look To The Rainbow", and "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered", then we had a new singer named RANDY SYMON or was it SEYMON anyway it is pronounced Simon, he has a great voice and sang "One For My Baby", the real "New York, New York", and "The Impossible Dream", which was the best, he also told us he sings on Mondays and Tuesdays in the dinning room at SAMMY G's in Downtown Palm Springs from 5 to 9 pm so get over there and see him, and the next singer was also new to us, JOSEPHINE NEWARK, who is a voice student of Marcia's and she also has a great voice and sang "I Wish You Love", "What I Did For Love", and "How Deep Is The Ocean", and guess who was back again, BETH FORMELOZA who sang "Make Believe", "Only Yesterday" and "Superstar", you can see it was a CARPENTER's night for Beth which was great because Joel loves singing the RICHARD parts, another singer making his 2nd appearance with us was MICHAEL BLAKE who sang "Old Devil Moon", plus we had TONY DESEINA who sang "God Bless The Child" and "You've Changed", then FERDIE FORMELOZA didn't sign up to sing but we talked in into singing "You Were Always On My Mind",and "The Nearness Of You", it was really great to have the Formeloza's back and they are both sounding amazing. And that was it for our CABARET ON THE GREEN OPEN MIC but we are back again this Saturday and would love to see YOU there!

HERE'S A GOOD TIP: Reservations are a good idea for dinning in the showroom. But if you get the answering machine do not leave a reservation on it. But call after 5 PM and press '1' at the end of the message and it will transfer to the bar where it will be answered by a real person who will take your reservations. DO NOT LEAVE RESERVATIONS ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE!

Also, our first round through the singer's sign up list is usually from 7:30 to around 9 PM, so even if you are somewhere else you can still drop in for the second round "Late Show" and have a drink with happy hour from 9 PM to closing.

And we get talented new singers all the time and are always welcome! Sign up time to sing starts at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30 pm and goes until 10 pm.

Sundays show had low attendance and what a shame because FRANCESCA AMARI really gave us a fabulous show along with WAYNE ABRAVANEL on piano and a really good drummer to the desert named STEVE PARBUCKLE.

This week is another one of the Desert's singers, BRAD SEIPLE with JOEL BAKER on piano for "Movies That Made Me" with some great songs from movies Brad remembers from childhood through adulthood. So please come out and show support of our wonderful performers, most of whom are locals. And the series is one of the best examples of live performance and the venue is one of the best for cabaret concerts. So please come out and see these shows.

DO YOU REMEMBER THURSDAY NIGHTS IN THE

TEN20 LOUNGE AT THE BEAUTIFUL BEL AGE HOTEL

IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS REALLY AROUND 2003 - 2006. THE NIGHT STARTED WITH "THE GUEST STARS SHOWCASE" AND 4 PERFORMERS DOING A SHORT SET AROUND 15 MINUTES AND 3 TO 4 SONGS. RON SNYDER, THE HOUSE PIANIST, PLAYED FOR THEM AND AFTER A SHORT BREAK WE CONTINUED THE NIGHT WITH OPEN MIC. IT REALLY WAS A FABULOUS ROOM WITH GREAT FOOD, GORGEOUS BABY GRAND, AND THAT VIEW!

I HAD SO MANY DIGITAL PHOTOS FROM THOSE NIGHTS BUT LOST THEM WHEN MY COMPUTER DIED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. BUT I RECENTLY FOUND THE PAPTER PROGRAM I PUT TOGETHER FROM THE VERY LAST NIGHT THERE AFTER THE HOTEL WAS SOLD, IT'S NOW CALLED LONDON WEST. ANYWAY, I COMPILED A LIST OF ALL 383 GUEST STARS FROM THE 140 SHOWS ON A SPECIAL WEB PAGE IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ALL THE INCREDIBLE SINGERS WHO CAME TO BE PART OF IT. I ALSO HAVE LOTS OF OLD "MINI - DVD'S" TAKEN OF A LOT OF THE SHOWS. ONCE I LEARN HOW TO TRANSFER THEM TO THE WEB I WILL POST THEM FOR YOU TO SEE.
