LES NEW PIC

DEAR READERS:
Had a fun time last Thursday at the former home of Loretta Young now owned by CHRIS BENNETT & husband Dino, for a cocktail party & reception for the current Miss Oregon EMMA PELETT. Notice the ice sculpture crown in the back ground - it was amazing!

Seeing as how Chris is a World famous singer and pianist, and her new home came with a beautiful Baldwin grand piano, it only made sense she do a mini-show of some covers and a couple of her fabulous originals. And to my delight she invited me up to sing "Too Marvelous For Words" and also TONY GRANDBERRY whose currently headlining at THE PURPLE ROOM on Fridays & Saturdays with THE GAND BAND.
Also entertaining us were DINO playing a piece from a film he's produced, and an incredible classical piece played by a young pianist visiting from CROATIA whose name I am sorry to say I didn't get. There were so many wonderful guests and lots of delicious hors d'oeuvres by LULU CALIFORNIA BISTRO. I can just see some grand 'salon performances' in the future, hmmmm.....

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
Beginning Wednesday, May 21st, THREE SIXTY NORTH will be the new Wednesday Night Cabaret Open Mic. They have excellent food, drinks, services, and prices as well as acoustic baby grand piano.

WHAT HAPPENED AT AJ'S ON SATURDAY:
Wow, another amazing night with 20 singers and lots of audience including a party of 7 from Canada who could not get over how talented everyone was, including ANTONIO RICO from the PSGMC singing "Friend Like Me" from the Disney musical ALADDIN. Fresh from McCallum's Open Call, LINDSAY OUELLETTE came and sang a favorite of mine "Hey There" from Pajama Game, & "On The Street Where You Live", then we had WARREN DELANGE, who'll be doing his SWINGIN' THE DREAM show June 1st at ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATER, he sang his father EDDIE DELANGE song "Deep In A Dream" & later "Sit Right Down And Write My Self A Letter" which the second time through had new parody lyrics he wrote to update it for today's computer & texting generation. Our next singer was DOUGH GRAHAM who got some huge cheers for "Wheels Of A Dream" from RAGTIME, & a very funny 'stalker' song called "To Excess". ALAN JON was amazing as always doing "What Kind Of Fool Am I" & "Being Alive", the another one of the finalist from Open Call, JEROME ELLIOTT did a sneak preview of a new song that will be part of his new Arthur Newman Theater show on July 27th UP IN FLAMES called "Those Were The Good Old Days" from DAMN YANKEES, it was a big hit with our audience and sure to be a great show not to be missed. BETH FORMELOZA was next with "When Your Love Has Gone" & "All My Tomorrows", we are all so happy for Beth's progress to one of our most talented singers, and I might add that husband FERDIE FORMELOZA is not far behind, singing "I Wish You Love" but I didn't remember to write in his 2nd song. Next was a newcomer with a wonderful voice named SHEILA RACZYNSKY who is a member of the California Desert Chorale who sang "Teach Me Tonight", Sheila came with LU RECTOR who is also getting into choir and ensemble groups lately, and who gorgeously sang "More Than You Know". Someone I know because we have voice coach ALEX VARDEN in common and are Facebook friends but have never met in person, TOM KIESCHE came to the desert to sing with us, "I Who Have Nothing" & by request of a diner named JIM who was there with his wife who asked Tom to sing "Old Man River" & he caught both his songs on video - here it is already on Youtube (taken from the bar so that's why you see his back)

RUSS ROOF got up next with a heartfelt introduction to "Unchanged Melody" that he sang to perfection and then was joined by wife WINETTE ROOF to sing a beautiful duet of "Sentimental Journey". Then it was JASON HULL, whose been really busy acting and directing but took time out to join us and sing "Feels LIke Home" & "Tomorrow" (not the one from Annie). And BURC LANDER sang us "I Talk To The Trees" & "I Still See Elisa" and MARGE HARRIS did "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend", "Overweight People" (a parody for Over The Rainbow) & a duet with husband LARRY HARRY with "Looking Through The Eyes Of Love" - Marge & Larry will be on hand to host an Old Fashioned Sing Along this coming Sunday the 18th with Joel on piano and sing along sheets with all the words to the songs, so make reservations for brunch and have some fun. We also had some latecomer singers including ANDY who sang "Cry", NORMAN who sang "Meet Me In St. Louis", & TONY doing "My Funny Valentine". Tony also has an incredible art display on exhibit at AJ's that is worth the trip over to see & that are available for purchase as well.

See you next Saturday for Cabaret Open Mic - it really is like no other night of entertainment anywhere - and no cover too.

AJ'S NOTE: There is a HUGE parking lot just past the front lot on your left. Remember to make reservations and see you next time.

QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE...

Everything Has A Purpose,
Even If You Don't Realize It
(The Karate Kid)

Feel your connection to the world. Feel your connection to
others. Feel your connection to all of life, and to all that is.

Focus your awareness in a place where there is no conflict.
Live at a place of acceptance, love and peaceful power.

Realize that you can do no harm to others without doing
harm to yourself. Realize that the goodness you give is
the goodness you experience.

Understand that your negative thoughts actually do create
negative reality, and your love does indeed make the world
a better place.

Feel that there is goodness and value to be found everywhere.
Connection yourself with life's goodness, and let it grow more
abundant through your loving, unique presence. :)

SAMPLE OF SONGS VIDEO

"My goodness, it is brilliant." - Koop Kooper, host, - "Cocktail Nation," Sydney, Australia

"Laura Ainsworth has not only met the incredible standard set by her debut recording but surpassed it..."  - Eric Harabadian, Jazz Inside

"Ainsworth segues in and out of moody ladies in love, like those in a Barbara Stanwyck film festival...Whether hilarious or heartfelt, Ainsworth packs a pistol & the goods & should make waves with this new release." - John Hoglund, Cabaret Scenes

"Reminiscent of those classic Verve, Capitol or Columbia albums of the 1950's, but equally, it is so vintage 2013, you just need to grab a copy and listen." - Richard Irvine, 87.7-FM

"Laura Ainsworth is an exceptional singer, full of grace and color in her interpretations. Her ability to express the elements of the most classic jazz is incomparable; she is able to subtly display sensuality, darkness, romanticism, naughtiness, and feeling. 'Necessary Evil' is a smart & brilliant contribution to the world jazz scene"  - Oscar Montagut, WorldMusicReport

"Delightful...Snazzy and jazzy...Charming and genuine... Recalls big band clubs in many a black-and-white film airing on TCM...Magically transporting to an era far gone..."
- Kevin Thomas, Dallas Voice

"As sweet-voiced as a meadowlark crossed with a hummingbird...The kind of gig Mae West would uncork champagne to and then sit back in brocade and rhinestones...
