CABARET ON THE GREEN AT AJ'S LAST SATURDAY:

Very big audience last week with a lot of new faces. With 15 singers many were able to sing 3 songs. We started with JOEL BAKER doing a medley using "Sunny Side Of The Street" with "The Best Things In Life Are Free". My opening song was "Almost Like Being In Love". Our first guest singer was DAVID BADER, he loves the #1 spot and he sang "Route 66", "Zing Went The Strings", and "One For My Baby". Next up we had V.V. Martin who had a big table full of friends having dinner and to hear her do "LA Vie En Rose", "Gone At Last". Then it was BETH FORMELOZA singing "Since I Fell For You", "Only You", and "I Know I Need To Be In Love". FERDIE FORMELOZA did 3 songs including "Fools Rush In", "More", even adding a little swing to it, and I forgot to write down his 3rd song. But I remembered DOUG GRAHAM did "50 Percent", and a parody of "The Brady Bunch". PAT MCCANN brought us "The Shadow Of Your Smile", "Love Me While You May", and "Someone To Watch Over Me". Also there was JB with "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Empty Chairs And Empty Tables", and "The Place Where Lost Things Go". ALAN JON came to sing "Born Free", and "Never, Never, Never". SHARON SILLS made an appearance doing "What Did You Think". Also doing only one song was LORETTA SIANI who did the beautiful "Both Sides Now". PATTI GALLAGHER had the next spot with "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", and "Warm All Over". We also had one very funny guy named ERIC KLYNER come in with his guitar and to sing his original comedic song "She Never Told Me. called ". RUTHANN DE LA VEGA had some really great songs including "Would You Believe", "Sweet Country Ham", and a really nice one called "Cycles". Another guy who came in with a few friends stayed around and finally asked to sing "Your Nobody Till Somebody Love You", and he was a real showman. A closing the show we had TONY DISIENA singing "Ordinary People".

REMEMBER TO MAKE THOSE RESERVATIONS: It is starting to get real busy so reservations are recommended so call 760-202-1111 if you get the answering machine leave a message with name, time, and number in party also leave your number so they can call you only if there is a problem. And it is best to call after 4 PM.

AJ'S PARKING NOTE: There is a HUGE parking lot just past the front lot on your left with and rear entrance to AJ's. Remember to make reservations!

HERE IS MY COLUMN FOR THE CURRENT ISSUE:

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2019 PALM SPRINGS COLUMN

Like much of the Country, this summer was very hot here in the desert at least through September, but it won't be long until the season is back up full speed. But a little heat doesn't stop us from continuing to bring cabaret to the masses. In fact things are just getting better and better. Frankie's is planning for the season in their new back room supper club in addition to their Thursday night open mic. PS Underground seems to have an endless supply of new ideas for their themed dinner shows at their beautiful new venue. AJ's On The Green has Les Michaels in charge of their new Tuesday night dinner and show inclusive starting off with Doug Graham starting it off on September 10th in Fosse Man, with more TBA soon. Speaking of AJ's, Joel Baker and I finished an 8-week run of a Friday version of our popular Saturday Cabaret On The Green Open Mic. After that Doug MacDonald brought added Friday nights to his Jazz Jam Series that already packs the house on Wednesday nights. Michael Holmes Purple Room returned at the end of August after a two-month vacation with Sam Harris on 8/30 & 8/31 with Todd Schroeder on piano. And continues with The Judy Show 9/1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 10/6, 13, 20, & 27, 9/6 and 10/4 is Palm Springs Jump, 9/7 is Adam Pascal, 9/13 & 10/5 is Scot Bruce. 9/14 is Renee Olstead, 9/20 is Brenna Whitaker, 9/24 is Black Martek Trust, 9/27 is The Buddy Holly Review, 9/28 is Niki Harris, 10/12 is John Lloyd Young, and 10/18 & 10/18 is Kinsey Sicks, My Cabaret On Sundays Series at Arthur Newman Theater in the Joslyn Center continues the 11th season with the return of Donald Houtz in Come Fly With Me - Confessions of a former Flight Attendant on 9/2, this time with Joel Baker on piano. Vicki Knight has a new show, September Again on 9/8 with Joel Baker on piano. The Mod Squad that packs Copa on Thursday nights will be the 9/15 show, starring Francesca Amari, Jeff Stewart & Wayne Abravanel. A former 'Gold-digger' Peggy Gohl is 9/22 in My Years With Dean, And... Then closing the season is Leslie Tinnaro & Jeff Lesser in I'm Nothing With You - Together Side By Side on 9/29, then it's off for October and returns for the 12th season from November through April next year. Also kicking off a series of dinners with live performances and speakers is Oscar's with Shoshana Bean on 10/9, and following monthly with stars like Barbara Eden, Michele Lee, Joan Van Ark, Donna Mills, & Richard Chamberlain, in addition to regular weekly entertainment nightly.

Everything else is about the same as always with the reopening of Vicky's Of Sante Fe, with more than likely a new or revised weekly line up. Also weekly is Derrik Lewis with his trio entertain Tuesdays and Thursdays in The Coral Lounge at Tropicale with Jeff Stover on bass and featuring rotating guest musicians including John Leys on trombone, and Paul Kay on flute. The very popular The Mod Squad Variety Show is next door at Copa Thursdays with Francesca Amari, Jeff Stewart, and Wayne Abravanel, followed by Bella Da Ball and Lipstick Cabaret Review. Stacy's Piano Bar has entertainment most evenings. and Ron Pass is Tuesday - Saturday nights at Morgan's La Quinta. Keisha D at Wang's the 1st and 3rd. Rose Mallett is at Woody's on Fridays. Michael D'Angelo is at Chef George's Picasso Lounge Tuesdays & Thursdays. Denny Pezin is now Fridays & Saturdays in the Sonora Room at Embassy Suites. Also at Oscar's, The Sensational Jewels are the last Wednesdays starring Kristi King, Kitty Murray, and Wendy Douglas. Frank's Place is back with their weekly schedule TBA. The same goes for the new Indigo Room at Pete's Hideaway.

A sample of the local theatre's shows are: The Savannah Sipping Society at Desert Theatreworks 9/6 - 9/22. Desert Ensemble Theatre starts off it's 2019 - 2020 season with their annual fundraiser, this year it's On The 21st Century 10/25 & 26, written & directed by Jerome Elliott. Annenberg Theatre's season doesn't begin until November but get ready because they have some big names from Broadway & Cabaret lined up. Desert Rose Playhouse has Die, Mommie Die and Christmas With The Crawford's coming up with dates TBA. And Palm Canyon Theatre will be presenting Peter Pan 9/20 - 9/29. And Priscilla Queen of the Desert 10/25 - 11/17.

TEN20 LOUNGE AT THE BEAUTIFUL BEL AGE HOTEL

IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS REALLY AROUND 2003 - 2006. THE NIGHT STARTED WITH "THE GUEST STARS SHOWCASE" AND 4 PERFORMERS DOING A SHORT SET AROUND 15 MINUTES AND 3 TO 4 SONGS. RON SNYDER, THE HOUSE PIANIST, PLAYED FOR THEM AND AFTER A SHORT BREAK WE CONTINUED THE NIGHT WITH OPEN MIC. IT REALLY WAS A FABULOUS ROOM WITH GREAT FOOD, GORGEOUS BABY GRAND, AND THAT VIEW!

I HAD SO MANY DIGITAL PHOTOS FROM THOSE NIGHTS BUT LOST THEM WHEN MY COMPUTER DIED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. BUT I RECENTLY FOUND THE PAPTER PROGRAM I PUT TOGETHER FROM THE VERY LAST NIGHT THERE AFTER THE HOTEL WAS SOLD, IT'S NOW CALLED LONDON WEST. ANYWAY, I COMPILED A LIST OF ALL 383 GUEST STARS FROM THE 140 SHOWS ON A SPECIAL WEB PAGE IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ALL THE INCREDIBLE SINGERS WHO CAME TO BE PART OF IT. I ALSO HAVE LOTS OF OLD "MINI - DVD'S" TAKEN OF A LOT OF THE SHOWS. ONCE I LEARN HOW TO TRANSFER THEM TO THE WEB I WILL POST THEM FOR YOU TO SEE.
