Lutherans For Life continues to impact today’s culture through our Word of Hope (word-of-hope.org), Volunteer Relations (lutheransforlife.org/volunteer-relations), and Y4Life (y4life.org) ministries. Through these ministry departments, LFL equips people of all ages to share Christ-centered truth, serve as volunteers and church workers, and raise up the next generation to speak boldly for life. You are encouraged to join the Step Up 4 Life: Called to Serve, Equipped to Share campaign by providing a donation to LFL, forming a walking team, or encouraging your congregation to host a life-affirming Bible study and collect a freewill offering to support Lutherans For Life. Our Rallying Cry: Stand Firm For Life!

by Rev. Paul Clark, Lutherans For Life of Michigan

“Imitate the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,” says King Henry V to his troops before battle (William Shakespeare, Henry V, Act 3, Scene 1).

That is what is known as a rallying cry, words that ignite people to act for a common cause or purpose.

Stand Firm For Life. In effect, this is our rallying cry, as we seek to protect and hold sacred human life in all its phases, from fertilization to the grave. We are in a spiritual and cultural battle. Stiffen the sinews; summon up the blood. Take courage! Stand Firm For Life!

But standing firm implies having a solid foundation. How firm is your foundation?

A Life Quote for Sunday, June 7: “Remember that our Savior was born into a human household … He is our Friend, our Brother, He will help us in our time of need, especially when we seek Him out in God’s Word and fervently in prayer. As you relate to others in your home, ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you wisdom in difficult situations, mercy in abundance when forgiveness is needed, and love to cover all your family’s interactions.” Rev. Dr. Oswald Hoffmann, former speaker of “The Lutheran Hour”

(Three Year Lectionary) A Life Thought in the Church Year for June 7 – 2nd Sunday after Pentecost: Sin is the cause of all our woes in this life. God says so. Does it mean we can pick out particular sins as being the cause of particular woes? Quite often not. But we do know the cure to all our woes: the death of Jesus. His death paid for all our sins. His death gives us eternal life, no matter what sins we carry and no matter what woes we suffer. Jesus is greater than them all, and Jesus has paid the price for them all. So, as St. Peter says, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself” (Acts 2:38-39). Repent of your sins and let Him cure all your woes.

(One Year Lectionary) A Life Thought in the Church Year for June 7 – Trinity 1: Our Lord’s plan is not our own plan. This is one of the greatest struggles for every single person born to the human race. We assume that, because we seem to have destiny in our hand, we have the ability to plan every single aspect of our lives, right down to the very time and place we have a child. Abraham was just like us. He had accumulated great wealth and was well respected in the new place God had sent him to. He had everything except a child—and thus no one to whom to pass on his wealth and wisdom. However, God promised him a child! While God does not promise us the same, He does promise us a family built on the blood of Jesus who names us His heirs and gives us His wisdom.
