Life Shines in Darkness … and in Youth

by Michelle Bauman, Director of Y4Life

Over 520 individuals came together to support LIFE!

The 2025 Y4Life in Washington, D.C., conference theme, Life Shines in Darkness, was based on John 1:4-5: “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

As the Y4Life team wraps up Y4Life in Washington, D.C., I am reflecting on the good, life-affirming gifts God gave us this year, and I can’t help but count you in that number. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to welcome a record number of youth at our conference this year. Because of sponsors like you, over 520 participants were able to attend.

That means that over 520 people heard multiple Gospel-motivated presentations. Over 520 energized and passionate attendees marched with us in the March for Life. Over 520 individuals came together to support LIFE!

Lutherans For Life’s annual Step Up 4 Life campaign provides a novel twist to the traditional Walk for Life. Each participant sets his or her own walking (or other activity) and fundraising goals, then walks to raise awareness about LFL’s work and encourages others to donate to his or her campaign.

A Life Quote for Sunday, June 22: “Let your life be so focused on the grace of God in Christ that your eyes are open to the people He is bringing into your life even now, ‘the least of these my brothers.’ Do not worry about whether the world considers them influencers or nobodies. Be attentive to those in your sphere of influence as Christ Himself is attentive to you. Concerned citizens? Sure! It is important. But being concerned disciples of Jesus for others is what ultimately lasts.” Dr. Gregory Seltz, PhD, Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty

A Life Thought in the Church Year for June 22 – Pentecost II (Proper 7C): Death is the devil’s lair and destruction is his labor. Demonic forces lurk around the grave and lead to nowhere else (Luke 8:27). Feeble mortals do well not to dabble with such sinister powers, even if technology like abortion and assisted suicide make it accessible. Better to beg the Lord Jesus to rescue and safeguard human life even when it appears less than to us.

Issues, Etc. is a ten-hour weekly syndicated radio talk show and podcast produced by Lutheran Public Radio. The program features expert guests, expansive topics, while extolling Christ and is hosted by Pastor Todd Wilken.

LFL’s former Executive Director, Pastor Michael Salemink, serves as the voice of KFUO’s daily Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer segments, based on the outstanding Treasury of Daily Prayer, leading listeners in Scripture readings and liturgical responses.
