Amanda Ireland Ward Scholarship Program
Applications are now being accepted for the Amanda Ireland Ward Memorial Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship is open to Guilford County graduating seniors who exude a spirit of service to others, a value in caring for and connecting with all people, and leadership inside and outside the classroom as illustrated through a written essay, demonstrated academic achievements, and a recommendation from a mentor, teacher, or coach.

Applications must be postmarked or dropped off at the Kellin Foundation office no later than February 15, 2022. 
Outdoor Adventurers of Color with Derick Lugo
Join the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library for a Zoom discussion with Derick Lugo, the author of The Unlikely Thru-Hiker: An Appalachian Trail Journey.

Mr. Lugo will share his story as a young black man demonstrating grit and humor while discovering the natural world of the trail on his journey.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is an afternoon of service projects for our neighbors in need, a volunteer fair, a community art project, a children’s area, performances, and more. Sponsored by Truist Bank.

RENT AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE:
Low Income Household Water Assistance Program
Households that have had their water services cut off or are in danger of being cut off can apply for assistance in paying their bill through the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). LIHWAP is a temporary emergency program that will help eligible households and families afford water and wastewater services.
The program provides a one-time payment directly to the utility company. LIHWAP runs through September 2023 or until the funds run out.
Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills. Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2022, through March 31, 2022, or until funds are exhausted.

Life Skills for Teens
The teenage years are hard on everyone. Most of us believe we are fully capable adults by the time we get our driver's license, but there is still a lot to be learned, and it is your job as the parent to teach these lessons to your teenager before he or she goes on to face the world for themselves.
Lifetime Learning Credit
The Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) is for qualified tuition and related expenses paid for eligible students enrolled in an eligible educational institution. This credit can help pay for undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree courses — including courses to acquire or improve job skills. There is no limit on the number of years you can claim the credit. It is worth up to $2,000 per tax return.

The Goodwill Community Foundation program helps millions around the world learn the essential skills they need to live and work in the 21st century. From Microsoft Office and email, to reading, math, creativity and design, and more — GCFLearnFree.org offers more than 200 topics, including over 2,000 lessons, more than 1,000 videos, and more than 50 interactives and games, completely free.
OPPORTUNITIES FROM GHA:
THE FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (FSS)
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is a voluntary program for households enrolled in the Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, or Project-Based Section 8 programs that helps them increase their earnings and build financial capability and assets.

The Escrow (Savings) Account:
When a participant’s rent increases due to an increase in earnings, the amount of the increase is placed in a savings account for the participant. A participant is eligible to receive all of the money in the account, plus interest once the FSS Contract is complete.

Cone Health is offering a series of mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinics throughout our communities.


VACCINES ARE FREE. No ID Required. Appointments are strongly encouraged.

Please wear a mask, plan to remain socially distanced, and wear loose clothing.

What To Expect
  • Wait time of 15 minutes after vaccination or 30 minutes with prior history of vaccination reactions.
  • Common side effects: pain and swelling at the injection site, fever, chills, tiredness, and headaches
  • For Pfizer and Moderna clinics, you will receive an appointment date for your second shot

IMPORTANT: Pfizer clinics are for ages 12+. All other vaccine types are 18+.
