HOT TOPICS:

National Night Out 2022

National Night Out was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2022, at 10 of GHA's communities. It is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped with these fantastic events!

Free or Reduced-price Lunch

Does your child qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch? The federal waivers that allowed districts to serve meals to all students for free have expired. Families are encouraged to fill out the free or reduced-price meal application to qualify for meal benefits. The application is available in English and Spanish.

If you are a renter and in need of rental and/or utility assistance, the following agencies may be able to assist you.

  • If you own your home and need help with preventing mortgage delinquencies, defaults, displacements, and foreclosures due to the COVID-10 Pandemic, please call 1-855-696-2423 or visit nchomeownerassistance.gov
Low Income Household Water Assistance Program
Households that have had their water services cut off or are in danger of being cut off can apply for assistance in paying their bill through the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). LIHWAP is a temporary emergency program that will help eligible households and families afford water and wastewater services.
The program provides a one-time payment directly to the utility company. LIHWAP runs through September 2023 or until the funds run out.

Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills. Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2022, through March 31, 2022, or until funds are exhausted.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH:

There are still a few weeks left of GCS’ free and exciting summer camp programs! Camps run Monday through Thursday, and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Choose the camp that fits your summer schedule.

GCS is excited to offer the Virtual Helpline this summer! This opportunity will be instrumental in stemming learning loss brought on by a worldwide pandemic. The helpline runs Monday through Thursday from 9 am-11 am and 3 pm-6 pm.

It's just one way the district is working with families to ensure students can access reading materials anywhere - at home, school - even on the road!

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is a voluntary program for households enrolled in the Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, or Project-Based Section 8 programs that helps them increase their earnings and build financial capability and assets.

The Escrow (Savings) Account:
When a participant’s rent increases due to an increase in earnings, the amount of the increase is placed in a savings account for the participant. A participant is eligible to receive all of the money in the account, plus interest once the FSS Contract is complete.

Community COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
Cone Health is offering a series of mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinics throughout our communities.


VACCINES ARE FREE. No ID Required. Appointments are strongly encouraged.

Please wear a mask, plan to remain socially distanced, and wear loose clothing.

What To Expect
  • Wait time of 15 minutes after vaccination or 30 minutes with prior history of vaccination reactions.
  • Common side effects: pain and swelling at the injection site, fever, chills, tiredness, and headaches
  • For Pfizer and Moderna clinics, you will receive an appointment date for your second shot

IMPORTANT: Pfizer clinics are for ages 12+. All other vaccine types are 18+.
