In order to provide continuing support for North Carolina’s youngest readers, The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Office of Early Learning has developed and released “Literacy at Home.”

This digital resource provides literacy activities at each grade level, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Families and communities may access this resource for activities that specifically target the literacy skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral language.

When children grow in each of these foundational areas they are well on their way to becoming proficient readers.

The Access Amazing Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees for many high school graduates in Guilford County.

The scholarship removes cost as a barrier for students graduating from a Guilford County high school and is a "last dollar" scholarship* that pays the remaining balance of student in-state tuition, college fees, and course fees once all other federal and state grants, scholarships, and sponsorships are applied.

U.N.I.T.E Greensboro Festival – A Day of Community, Inclusion, and Fun

The UNITE Festival is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of community, inclusion, and the incredible organizations working to support children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. UNITE stands for "Understanding Inclusion Takes Everyone," a message that highlights the importance of collaboration in building a supportive and welcoming community for all.

What to Expect

At the heart of the festival is the Resource Fair, where families can explore a wide range of services, programs, and advocacy groups that support children with disabilities. Whether you're looking for early intervention resources, therapeutic services, or community programs, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with experts and organizations that truly make a difference.

Beyond the Resource Fair, the festival offers live entertainment, hands-on activities, and interactive experiences for all ages. From music and movement to creative play, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Festival Highlights

  • Live Performances and Music: Experience dance, music, and entertainment from talented performers throughout the event.
  • Lawn Games and Interactive Activities: Enjoy classic lawn games, hands-on fun, and creative play spaces.
  • Face Painting and Art Stations: Let your creativity shine with colorful designs and artistic activities.
  • Drum Circle: Participate in a rhythmic, interactive drumming experience.
  • Fire Truck Exploration: Get an up-close look at a real fire truck and meet local firefighters.
  • Splash Pad: Cool off and have fun in the water play area.
  • Kona Ice Truck and Free Giveaways: Enjoy a treat and take home fun surprises.

Who Should Attend?

UNITE is open to everyone—families, caregivers, educators, and community members looking to celebrate inclusion and learn more about the resources available in our community. Whether you're a parent looking for support, an advocate for disability rights, or just looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend the day, this festival is for you.
