Surayati's village is in a remote patch of land, 20km away from the nearest town. She has no access to basic needs like electricity. When night falls, she lights a small fire by burning palm kernels to provide light for her family. Blanketed by darkness, she contemplates why her life has remained unchanged and what other uncertainties the future will bring.
It’ll only cost you 80 cents to charge your mobile phone… for a year. That’s unbelievably cheap and a negligible expense. After all, what is 80 cents a year?

What if I told you instead that it’ll cost you RM624 to charge your mobile phone for a year? On top of that, it’s going to take you five times as long and you’ll even have to be away from your phone for three days at a time.

That’s exactly what’s happening in the rural orang asli communities in Pahang that is living without electricity.
We introduced the All-Lights Village solar project to the orang asli villages near Muadzam Shah and Chini in late August 2018. A Global Peace Development programme in several countries including Philippines, Korea, Japan, and Cambodia, “the All-Lights Village project is a long-term community development programme that combines solar technology with clean water solutions, education, income generation, and public-private partnerships to improve the overall quality of life in measurable and sustainable ways.”
