A Word From Father Mike

Gaudete Sunday - "Rejoice" Sunday
In the darkening days of the first weeks of Advent, we have begun our Sunday liturgies asking for mercy and remembering our need for God's light to dawn on us.
This Sunday, we shake off our more somber penitent mood and remember that we are moving toward the Good News of Christ's birth. We will light the pink candle and listen to the repeating joyful admonition that God is with us.
"
The Lord is in your midst ...
he will renew you in his love."
(Zephaniah 3:17)
"Shout for joy,
for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel" (Isaiah 12:6)
"Rejoice in the Lord always ...
Let your gentleness be known to everyone.
The Lord is near." (Philippians 4:4-5)

Sunday School
This is the 3rd Sunday in Advent. Christmas is fast approaching. It is so important to instill in the children what Christmas is really about. I hope to see everyone in Sunday School this week (at least those who aren't singing for Lessons and Carols)! How blessed we are to have such a large Children's Choir! Go Mr. John! If you'd like information about Sunday School or to become involved please reach out!

Christmas Gifts for FIS & Patch Children
|
Family Intervention Services
and Patch Children
In Need of Christmas Gifts!
The exciting hustle and bustle of the holiday season is quickly approaching. While this is
a wonderful time for most, there are many that find this the most difficult time of the
year.
The children from Family Intervention Services (ranging from 0-21) and their
parents or caregivers are involved in receiving some type of counseling or services in an
effort to strengthen the family and make them more independent.
The children from the
Patch program are kids that have at least one incarcerated parent. Many times these
children and parents do not have the ability to provide gifts during the holidays. This is
where St. Peter's parishioners can help to make the holidays a little bit better with
providing them with a gift.
This year, both Family Intervention Services as well as the PATCH program will have
tags on the giving tree located in the Narthex (back of church) beginning Thanksgiving
weekend on November 25
th
.
Each tag will have a child's age and gender. We are asking
that you get a toy or item you think a child of that age and gender might enjoy.
We are
requesting that gifts be put in a holiday gift bag and returned to church no later than
Sunday, December 16th with the tag attached. You can drop the gift off under the giving
tree or at the church office.
If you have any questions about Family Intervention Services or the PATCH program,
please feel free to contact Christine DiGiovanni at (973) 618-9345.
Thank you in
advance for your kindness and generosity!

Family Church

Family Church
My heart just overflowed on Sunday. The children did such a wonderful job with Family Church! Many thanks to Beckett DeStefano & Claire Grothues who were so careful with the elements and Matthew Grothues, Vincent Korenstein & Stephanie Panitch who were so helpful with ushering. And despite some very last minute changes and nerves the readers ROCKED IT! Thanks Jake Watkinson, Sally Cutting and Lena Korenstein :)
Our next Family Church is Epiphany, January 6th, when we will have a special visit from three wisemen!
