Life enrichment, inclusion, social interaction remain important
Randy and Howard have always been close with their family. And, the family has watched out for them. ProAct has been an extension of their family for 43 years. The two men need the social interaction ProAct provides to have a good quality of life. As the two have stayed home with their sister, they are taking virtual enrichment classes online through ProAct in Eagan. Family members are seeing a difference.
Virtual enrichment classes offered
For years, ProAct has been a leader in education options for adults with disabilities. So it's no surprise that it's now doing the same thing, online.

Virtual Enrichment classes are rolling in Eagan with a full schedule. And, the Red Wing site will soon offer something similar for its participants.

"It's really well done," said ProAct VP Kim Feller. "They've taken it and really run with it."

Program Coordinator Stephanie Osman said many families are appreciating the option. There's anticipation before class times as participants are excited to connect with their friends and staff.

Subject themes range from exercise and crafts to brain teasers, singing, scavenger hunts and more. ProAct Playhouse has also been engaging online, preparing for its next dramatic presentation after things open back up.

Crew handles corks for crafters
Popped corks are thought of for celebrations, special moments and congrats, but they’re also popular with craft hobbyists. A ProAct crew sorted them for sale before the coronavirus shutdown.

“People make shoes out of them, bulletin boards, picture frames at wedding tables, all sorts of different things,” said Megan Iverson, general manager at Stakkers in Mendota Heights.

The task? Removing the synthetic corks from the real McCoy. ProAct Site Supervisor Rick Jirik said the rubber or synthetic corks feel more waxy.
