BUILDING A VALUES-BASED TEAM

Impel Wealth Grows to Better Serve Clients
By Jesse W. Hurst, II, CFP®, AIF®
As Impel Wealth has grown, adding the right team members has become more important than ever. I look to hire people with the right skills, character and value traits that are congruent to our firm. This has resulted in a team that brings their A-game to each area of the business.

Karen Johnson implements our investment portfolios and asset allocation models. Sarah Montgomery helps me in preparing financial plans and investment reviews. Marie Christman opens new accounts and coordinates marketing efforts. Leslie Campanini welcomes clients into our firm, maintains digital records and supports the team administratively.

Talent is important. Character is critical.

Character traits and heart attitudes are the intangibles that cannot be taught but become the bedrock of success.

The team I mentioned above are people who are reliable, trustworthy and compassionate. Our clients are surrounded by highly skilled people who care about them as individuals and about their family's financial success.

It is a big decision to place new people in front of the clients who have come to trust us. When it came time to add to our team, we needed to find someone who had the right balance of talent and character. I am proud to introduce you to Nathan Ollish, CFP, whom you will meet in this issue.

Nathan's aptitude and experience in the financial realm is impressive. In addition, he was an honors college graduate, scholarship track athlete, Army officer and is a man of faith. He brings a deep understanding of the value of "team," a strong work ethic and a commitment to helping our clients.

Nathan and the rest of the team are here to respond to your questions and keep moving you forward. Thank you for trusting us .

WHO'S ON YOUR TEAM?

Choose professionals who can help you achieve life goals

At Impel Wealth, we've hand-picked our team members based on skills and character. When it comes to choosing your "life" team, choose wisely.

We are often asked for our recommendations on additional key life advisors. We have many talented professionals with whom we work, but the choice is ultimately yours. Here are some considerations when choosing professional services that will affect your long-term well-being.

Estate-planning attorneys. You wouldn't go to a heart specialist for an ankle problem, nor to a general practitioner for an appendectomy.

In the legal realm, work with an attorney who focuses on estate planning, elder care and end-of-life planning. Often, attorneys will say, "Oh, sure, I can do your will, too." If wills and trusts are not a primary practice area, do not entrust them with this important documentation.

Insurance agents. Sure, you can secure many types of insurance online, but it is valuable to talk to an experienced agent that offers a range of personal and commercial coverages to coordinate your auto, home and umbrella policies. Impel Wealth can assist you with life insurance and long-term-care coverage options.

Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). By nature, CPAs tend to look back. You bring in your documents. They crunch the numbers and tell you how things ended the year prior. Our recommendation: Find a CPA that looks back to help you look forward; one that completes the previous year's financials and says, "Next year, here are the proactive steps you can take to manage this better."

It is also extremely important to find a CPA who is willing to work closely with your financial advisor. We will coordinate and collaborate on the necessary information with your CPA and vice versa.

Feel free to ask us additional questions regarding these professional services at your next interaction with the Impel Wealth team.
The above mentioned professionals are not affiliated or registered with Cetera Advisors LLC.

   UPDATES

By Nathan D. Ollish, CFP®

As the newest member of the Impel Wealth Management team, I want to take a moment to introduce myself and my family.

I grew up just east of Columbus, Ohio, the only boy with three sisters.  I attended the University of Akron, where I ran track and cross country my freshman year before injuries ended my collegiate athletic career. I graduated from the University of Akron's Honors College with a degree in History, and shortly thereafter, I was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army.

After completing my time on active duty, I moved back to Akron where I met my wife, Lauren. We will be celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary this month. A proud Akron native, Lauren was born at Akron City Hospital and now works there as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department.

Our family grew when we welcomed our son, Harvey Jacob, on November 30, 2017. We've made West Akron our home and are active members in our church, Citizens Akron.

During my time as a U.S. Army officer, I often faced difficult challenges and circumstances -- whether it was completing the Army's strenuous Officer Candidate School, working in detention camps at Guantanamo Bay or being on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

One instance that comes to mind is enduring a 19-mile road march to earn my German Forces Proficiency Badge in the Army's Military Police Officer course. It was a hot, mid-summer Missouri day and my 25-pound pack was not getting any lighter. The task at hand, walking 19 miles in under six hours, did not bring positive thoughts to my mind. But at the start of the march, two of my classmates and I agreed to stick together. We knew that having a positive mindset and keeping our collective eyes focused on the goal would be critical to completing the march and reaching our goal.

When I joined the Impel Wealth Management team in June, it was clear from the onset that I was stepping into a positive environment where everyone is focused on helping clients pursue their goals. Jesse, as the founder and president of Impel, has made it a priority to foster a culture which embraces keeping a positive mindset and being focused on helping clients reach their goals. At Impel, these ideas are not mutually exclusive. They are integral in how we work together as a team in serving our clients.

Being a part of Impel Wealth Management allows me to pursue my passion of helping others achieve their dreams. We do this by helping our clients understand how their finances and resources can work for them, and by creating options to assist them in pursuing their goals. It is a joy to be a part of a team that comes to work every day with a positive mindset, enjoys working together, and is focused on serving our clients so that they can pursue their goals. I am excited to have joined the Impel Wealth Management team and I look forward to helping you "Move Life Forward" in the years ahead.
