March 2026

Dear Friend,

I've always found it fascinating how St. Ignatius explains life when we're in union with God. In his rules of discernment for the second week (Sp.Ex. 316) Ignatius refers to this state as "consolation," describing it as a growth in faith, hope, and love.

As I've journeyed through this Lent, my prayer has shifted toward recognizing how God grants me the grace of consolation:

  • How do I notice my faith, hope, and love deepening?
  • What daily moments draw me nearer to God?
  • Am I actively creating opportunities to receive this grace of consolation?

With this in mind, take time to consider what Terresa Ford, the writer and narrator of our Lenten series this season, says in this Sunday’s reflection:

"When we trust God, we welcome God into our hearts, our minds, and our lives to heal what is broken. Just as Jesus used the Samaritan woman to open the door for even more people to experience and respond to God’s love, God can use us. God can use us to love the hard-to-love people in our lives; people we would rather avoid, but who need Jesus as much as we do."

You may listen to that reflection here.

I also invite you to watch and reflect with our Ministerio Hispano Ignaciano's latest Lenten video featuring Fr. Rocco Danzi, SJ, inspired by the work of St. Alberto Hurtado, SJ. St. Hurtado was a Chilean Jesuit who saw Christ hidden in the poor, in invisible workers, and in those struggling to survive on the margins. (Spanish and English versions available.)

Un abrazo,

Carlos Aedo
