World Cerebral Palsy Day - October 5, 2016
|
IN CELEBRATION OF WORLD CP DAY 2016, we recognize
Anneka Wilt who has been involved with UCP Central PA since 2013. After attending several events hosted by UCP's Family Support Services, she began volunteering at various family activities, particularly the annual pool parties and Fun Fairs. At the most recent
Family Fun Fair
on September 25, Anneka could be found energetically running the Duck Pond game.
At 25 years of age, she likes to keep active and enjoys volunteering for a number of different organizations, in different capacities. In addition to her involvement with UCP's family events, she has volunteered as a greeter at Walmart, at Mt. Rock Care & Share childcare center, at Grace B. Luhrs University Elementary School, at a senior center, and with the ARC. She also helps out with Bingo every Friday night at the Vigilant Hose Company in Shippensburg.
Anneka was not born with
Cerebral Palsy, but was diagnosed early on when her mother realized that she was not reaching her developmental milestones. While her mobility and physical limitations did not prevent her from being fully included in all aspects of school, they have unfortunately limited her ability to secure paid employment.
Still, when asked about her disability, she says that she doesn't let it get her down. She always tries to challenge herself with new things even if she isn't successful.
Her advice was to "never give up, keep trying."
Thanks, Anneka! We look forward to seeing you at more family activities!

whether it's your holiday tradition to donate your time as a wrapper...
or bring your gifts to be wrapped...
or both...
UCP's Holiday Gift Wrap at Capital City Mall (outside of Macy's) is a surefire way to get into the giving spirit. The best part is... every package we wrap represents a measure of hope for people with disabilities in our community.
