Teaching the Word. Touching the Soul. Transforming the Life.

Peace and Blessings,

In this season of Lent—40 days of prayer and fasting leading up to Resurrection Sunday—there is a song that addresses to the significance of the season, as it speaks to the hearts of every Christian. I believe that you will know the following lyrics:

Alas! And did my Savior Bleed? And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head for such a one as I? Was it for crimes that I have done He groaned up on the tree? Amazing pity, grace unknown! And love beyond degree! Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut HIs glories in. When Christ, the mighty Maker died for man the creature’s sin. But drops of grief can ne’er repay the debt of love I owe. Here, Lord, I give myself away—Tis all that I can do!

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, and the burden of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I received my sight, and now I am happy all the day!

How blessed we are that God so loved the world, that God sacrificed and saved us from every sin through the blood of Jesus the Christ. To suffer for the sins of another is a profound and humbling thought, but that’s what Jesus did, and we should never forget it. So, this Sunday, I begin a three-part series entitled “The Journey to the Cross.” This Sunday’s message is coming from Luke 22:14-23

Peace,

Bishop Dr. Mark W. Thompson

Senior Pastor

Eva Jessye

The Dean of Black Female Musicians

Before Broadway lights dimmed and concert halls fell silent in awe, Eva Jessye had already begun composing a legacy that would change the sound of American music forever. A visionary choral director, fearless cultural trailblazer, and the first Black woman to gain international acclaim as a professional choir director, Jessye didn’t just conduct music—she conducted movements. With elegance, discipline, and an unshakable belief in the power of Black spirituals, she lifted voices that had long gone unheard and carried them to the grandest stages in the world. Her story is one of brilliance, bold leadership, and unapologetic excellence—a symphony of perseverance that still echoes today.
