Teaching the Word. Touching the Soul. Transforming the Life.

Blessings,

I want to share with you two quotes that speak to Sunday’s message about the need for Christian unity. The first quote was written by an Indian Spiritualist named Sai Baba who wrote:

Look out into the universe and contemplate the glory of God. Observe the stars, millions of them, twinkling in the night sky, all with a message of unity, part of the very nature of God.

The second quote comes from President Nelson Mandela who wrote:

I dream of the realization of the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their efforts to solve the problems of this continent. I dream of our vast deserts, of our forests, of all our great wildernesses.

Now read the words of Jesus the Christ:

As you, Father, are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. The glory that you have given Me I have given them, so that they may be one, as We are one, I in them and You in Me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent Me and have loved them even as you have loved Me. John 17:21-23

Each message provided stands on the beauty of and the need for unity. Unity is Divinely purposed as a human virtue, but moreso, becoming united for the good is what Jesus prayed for all people. This Sunday I will teach about the theme of Unity as shared in Philippians 4:1-7

Peace and Unity my Sisters and Brothers,

Alexander Miles: Black Inventor

We take so many things in modern life for granted! Anyone who’s ridden modern elevators has Alexander Miles to thank for the stair alternative’s automatic doors. Prior to his design’s 1867 patent, riders had to open manually and close two sets of doors when entering and exiting elevator cars. If a passenger forgot to close one of the doors, subsequent elevator riders risked a potentially fatal fall down the elevator shaft. Because, as the adage goes, necessity is the mother of invention, Miles created a mechanism that forced both elevator doors to close simultaneously, thus preventing dangerous accidents. Alexander Miles’ invention was not only innovative, it also saved lives!
